REGISTRATION FOR MILITARY MEMBERSRegistering a car in Colorado will be a little different if you are a military member. The requirements will vary depending on if you are a CO resident or not. Let’s review them below:

Non-Residents Operating a Vehicle in ColoradoIf you are not a Colorado resident but you are stationed in Colorado, you may choose between:
• Keeping your current registration with your state (or)
• Registering your vehicle in Colorado.
If your chose the second option, you will have to first comply with the Colorado emis-sions laws and requirements; nevertheless, you are exempt from paying the tax. In order to apply you must:
• Present proof of being stationed in a Colorado military base.
• Present your military ID.
• Present your current Leave and Earnings Statement.
• Present a completed Nonresidence and Military Service Exemption from Specific Ownership Tax Affidavit.
FeesFees are based on the empty weight and type of your vehicle, weight, taxable value, purchase date, and type of plate you request.

Renewing Your Vehicle Registration
Is it time to renew your vehicle registration? Much like with many things in life, such as your driver license and even food products, your vehicle registration will be at risk of expiring and that will mean your vehicle will be deemed invalid to drive legally. This of course can be solved by simply making sure to renew your vehicle’s registration before the expiration date is allowed to pass by unattended.
Therefore, allowing your vehicle registration to expire is not a well advised thing to do, as it will mean you are no longer able to legally drive with your vehicle. You will have up to one month to renew your vehicle registration once the expiration date has passed. Afterwards, you will be fined for $25 for every month you do not renew your vehicle registration after it expires. The total amount assessed will not exceed the $100 late fee limit. To renew your vehicle registration in person you will have to take the following steps:
