You will need: 2 tablespoons of oil 3 drops each of red, blue, and yellow food coloring a measuring cup with a spout a spoon a clear quart-sized jar or vase of water 1. Stir the oil and drops of food coloring in the measuring cup. (Don’t add more food coloring or it will just turn brown.) 2. Pour the oil and color into your jar of water. Watch what happens! HOW DOES THIS WORK? Oil and water push away from each other— they don’t mix. Because the food coloring is made with water, it pushes away from the oil and spreads through the water.
