COLONNADE PROGRAM
FALL 2020 WEB COURSE OPTIONS
The WKU Colonnade Program is a new general education program designed for students entering Fall 2014 and after. Students entering prior to Fall 2014 may choose between the former general education curriculum and Colonnade Program.
The 39 credit hour WKU Colonnade Program seeks to embody the following goals and learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge of human cultures and the physical and natural world, including: a. An informed acquaintance with major achievements in the arts and the humanities b. An appreciation of the complexity and variety of the world’s cultures c.Anunderstandingofthescientificmethodandaknowledgeofnaturalscienceandits
relevance in our lives d. A historical perspective and an understanding of connections between past and present.
2. Intellectual and practical skills, including: a.Thecapacityforcriticalandlogicalthinking b.Proficiencyinreading,writing,andspeaking c.Theabilitytounderstandandapplymathematicalskillsandconcepts
3. Personal and social responsibility, including: a. An understanding of society and human behavior b.Anunderstandingoffactorsthatenhancehealth,well-being,andqualityoflife
4. Integrative Learning, including: Synthesis and advanced accomplishments across general and specialized studies
AllcourseworkiscategorizedasGeneralEducationcourseworkandconsistsofcoursesin3categories.Courseswithanapprovedequivalency,includingthosewitha“C”suffix,willfulfilltheappropriaterequirement.
ThiscourselistdoesnotincludeallapprovedColonnadecourses,butinsteadidentifiesWKUOnlinecoursesthatareavailableondemandtofulfillColonnaderequirements.Options include:
• Campuslocation“web”referstocoursesthataretermbasedonlineclassesthathavespecificstartandenddates.
• Campuslocation“ondemand”referstocoursesthatyoucanstartanydayoftheyearandfinishinaslittleas7weeks.

WORLD LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
WKUoffersoveradozendifferentlanguages!Startwiththefirstsemesterandcompleteatleastthesecondlevel(seebelowforondemandandweboptionstofulfillthisrequirement).Studentsmustcompletethisre-quirementbeforeearning60credithourswithagradeofCorbetter.Thesecondlevelistypicallya102coursenumber.NOTE:Studentswhobeganbefore2004arerequiredtofulfillthefirstleveloflanguage,typicallya101coursenumber.
BEGIN STUDY OF A NEW LANGUAGE
Ifyouwanttocontinuealanguagestudiedinhighschool,youmaymeetthisrequirementbycompletingthe102levelofthelanguageoranyhigherlevelcoursetaughtinthelanguagewithagradeofCorbetter.Ifyouhavenotstudiedalanguageforseveralyearsanddonotfeelcomfortableatthe102level,then101isavailable;however,102oraboveisrequiredbeforecompleting60credithoursforColonnadestudents.
