C NNECT NS Colonial Country Club Thomasville, NC October 2016 Newsletter

From Our Board President

October Club Report Here we are with great weather and a super conditioned golf course. We have hired Addison Scott to head our golf course operations. He has all the qualification with two and a half years experience. He was with Carmel Country Club as an assistant and was in charge of a large staff on weekends. He was highly recommend by Carmel for the job. We’re excited to see what Addison will bring to Colonial. We are still working on budgets for all department heads. The challenges remain to watch every dollar. We are experi-encing higher cost, we the board wanted to get through 2016 without an assessment. This will not be possible, so there will be a $125.00 on September 30th and a $125.00 on October 31st as well. The finance committee has recommend this to stay solvent. Everyone please help us with your support of the club. The board has had to make difficult decisions and would like to thank each of you for your support. We need new members and would like for all of you to invite your neighbors and friends to play golf and enjoy dinner at our club. Let's get back to playing golf and having fun with great friends. We have Senior Club Championship and the 19 man coming up, please sign up in the pro shop. Thank you to all members for your support! Thanks,

It is hard to believe the summer is behind us and we are going into the fall. During the fall, we will be prepping the golf course for the winter months. Our goal is to make sure it is ready for the colder weather and limit the amount of winter kill or other damage from the cold temperatures. The golf course staff will be adjusting mowing heights as the growing season is coming to an end. This is necessary to ensure the fairways and other areas will be able to survive the winter. Kim Dillard our Tennis Pro has been working hard on the courts. Even though this time of year slows down for tennis, there is plenty of playing opportunities, so just stop by the Tennis shop and talk with Kim about lessons, clinics, etc. Ben Miller is still busy in the golf shop. Everyone had a great time at the Fall Member-Member and Shorty Kimmons and Mark Dula are our Fall Member-Member winners. There is plenty of time to qualify for the 19-man tournament in November, so if you have not tried to qualify, stop by the Pro Shop let them know you would like to. Starting in October we are going to be having the Sunday Brunch Buffet once a month, and on the other Sundays we will have an Al Carte Sunday Brunch Menu. Chef Jeff Stilley has come up with a brunch menu, which we will offer in addition to the regular lunch menu. Our goal is to increase business but also keep cost down. We are working on many fun events for the next few months and there is something for everyone. I am looking forward to doing the Children’s Haunted House as that has become an annual tradition. With the Christmas Holidays coming up, don’t forget to check with Holly Calvert about booking your Holiday party. As we come closer to the end of the year, the Membership committee will be focusing on 2017 and coming up with some new ways to attract members. This is always a challenge but we know Colonial is a great place and with the right strategies and hard work we can make it even better.

Thank you for all your support and I will see you around the Club! David Lehman General Manager
