It starts with a seed and a partnership

• Flora species lists were provided to CVA by Catchment Solutions detailing the

Regional Ecosystem types and which species were naturally dominate in the

Collinsdale area

• Target species were selected after considering planting zones such as in the

gully, up on the higher or lower banks of the Fitzroy an also the hardiness of the

species

• A lot can be said for walking the land as well and CVA visited the Collinsdale

property both before and after earthworks to gain an understanding of the

property and the existing vegetation.

Seed Collecting

Target species seed were collected by CVA volunteer teams

• Themeda triandra (kangaroo grass)

• Lomandra longifolia (mat rush)

Plant Propagating

Volunteer teams in Mackay in partnership with the Mackay

Natural Environment Center, hand pricked and propagated the

seeds, ensuring hardy stock was available during planting times.

Volunteers are inducted into facility and provided with skills and

training in native plant propagating and Workplace Heath and

Safety.

Since December 2017, volunteers have propagated 8, 844 tube

stock for the Fitzroy Gully Revegetation project.

Onsite at Collinsdale

After major earth works had been completed in 2019, the CVA

team headed up to Collinsdale to complete weed treatments

focusing on cut stumping of rubber vine and Lantana found in

Louisa Creek.

Revegetation activities took place shortly after this with just over

1,200 tube stock planted out before Christmas 2019.

After a harsh and dry summer and a few plants lost before the

rains, the team returned in 2020 and have planted an additional

2,670 plants on site at Collinsdale.

• The Collinsdale Revegetation project is a part of the CVA

campaign structure and sits under our Revive our Rivers

initiative.

Australia’s rivers are of immense ecological significance and

provide important habitat for many species. Our rivers, their

catchments and floodplains support significant aquatic and

terrestrial biodiversity, including species found nowhere else on

Earth. Maintaining healthy connections between oceans, rivers

and their floodplains is critical for the life cycle of many species.

Revive our Rivers engages communities to protect and enhance

our rivers, floodplains and catchments to ensure they are clean

and healthy for future generations.

Education and Engagement By 2025 Revive our Rivers has engaged 10,000 volunteers in river, riparian and floodplain conservation activities

On-ground restoration By 2025, annual maintenance, rehabilitation and restoration has taken place on 30 rivers and their catchments

Partnerships By 2025 Revive our Rivers will have formed significant (multi-year) partnerships with 120 partners, including private landholders

Citizen Science By 2025, 4000 volunteers will have contributed ongoing data to 10 citizen science initiatives

Our targets: 2020-2025
