ITEMS OF INTEREST

Mr. Green Collington says:

The average American uses between 350 and 500 plastic bags per year. Use reusable bags.

VISIT FROM THE VET: Dr. Maturo will be here Monday, June 6. Contact Pat King for more information at x7333. We are also trying to assess the feasibility of having a dog groomer come to Collington. To see if there is enough interest please contact Kay Laughton 5103, or x5088 with your name, breed of dog, and frequency of grooming requirements.

FROM THE FLOWER COMMITTEE: Many of you have wondered what has gone on around the Train Cottage. The Flower Committee has long wanted to have shrubs/plants on campus that could be used as greens in our flower arrangements without having to buy them from the wholesalers. To that end, Jim Curley researched possible sites, members of the Flower Committee (Peggy Latimer, Pat Duggan, and Martha Wilder) chose the plants, and the committee's off-budget funds paid for Ciminellis Landscape Service to install the garden, using all organic and ecologically friendly materials. We hope that you will enjoy the new look, and also enjoy as we use cuttings from these plants to enhance our arrangements over the years.

REMINDER: If you have not already, please begin to renew your subscriptions for Roundhouse Theater, NSO, and the NSO: Coffee Concerts, and the PG Philharmonic. For all other subscription series

Collington June 6 – 12, 2016 11

Vernon Unitarian Church in Alexandria, VA. She moved to Virginia in 2008 to serve the Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church in Alexandria. Prior to MVUC, she served the Meadville Unitarian Church in Pennsylvania for ten years. She was raised UU and is a double UU preacher’s kid. She received her Doctor of Ministry from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. She lives in Alexandria with her husband Mark, and has three stepchildren and two grandchildren. The subject for this month's sermon is: "Are You Happy?” Is there a significant difference between happiness during a good meal, and feeling happy as a part of life, the universe and everything? Does happiness impact us on a cellular level? (Please join the UU's after the service in the dining room for lunch and conversation.)
