    ITEMS OF INTEREST

We CAN make a difference! Don’t let water run. “The water you use in your home has to be taken from natural habitats and requires energy to treat and transport, which is why it’s important for each of us to find ways to reduce the amount of water we use in our daily lives.” Greenhome.com

RECEIVE THE COURIER ELECTRONICALLY: If you would like to receive the Courier electronically, please email Bianca Williams at [email protected]. COLD WEATHER NOTICE: We have done well with the weather up till now. This is when we begin to have the possibility of pipe freezing. It won’t happen at once but a day or two to cool off everything is coming fast. It will be wise to open the cabinet doors at night to let the heat in the house warm pipes under sinks. I know we will let some VERY slow drips begin in our sinks and continue as long as nights are frigid and

  • Courier 9 January 8– January 14, 2018

days stay below freezing. We do this at night only since during the day water is drawn for various things and flushing happens. If you go away for a few days, the wise thing to do is leave cabinet doors open and a tiny, tiny drip in each sink. Be safe. What a wonderful holiday season we are having no sense in frozen pipes and all that mess. Our staff is so fantastic and we have been cared for so well we don’t want to burden them during this season. –Nancy Lively INTERESTED IN POTTERY MAKING?: If anyone would be interested in making hand-built and/or sculptured pottery, please let me know. The kiln has not been working properly and we won’t fix it or get a new one unless there is some interest. We do not have a wheel because of inadequate facilities and we do not have a pottery teacher (unless someone would like to volunteer). Thank you. Maja Keech [email protected] Cottage 2004, x7253 A LETTER TO CLARITA: Dear Clarita, I was scheduled to teach a seminar on painting at Collington last week and was awed by the wonderful one-woman show of your miniature paintings by the Auditorium. I hope your fellow residents are enjoying their beauty. I was particularly taken by your delicate brush strokes. Where do you get such fine brushes? Paris or the OO Shop? Fondly, Toulouse Lautrec JANE ENGLE MEMORIAL, SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 3PM, AUDITORIUM: The memorial service will be held in the Auditorium at 3PM and a reception will follow. As a keen lover of nature, Jane was an active and devoted member of the Audubon Naturalist Society. She enjoyed volunteering for and participating in many of the Society’s programs, including their important volunteer water quality monitoring program. Tribute gifts in Jane’s memory may be made to Audubon Naturalist Society and sent to their headquarters at 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.
