What does it mean by high school “ready”? College and Career “ready”?

What is College and Career?

What is College and Career? Our goal is to provide all students opportunities to learn and

sharpen academic skills and develop character traits that are necessary for students to attend college and/or choose a career after high school.

What does it mean to be College and Career “ready”? College Readiness is to make sure students who plan to attend

college after high school graduation are enrolled in college level courses without remediation.

Career Readiness is to make sure students who choose a career after high school graduation have the skill set ready for work place and career education.

Do Intermediate school years matter? In what ways?

Spending three years at the Intermediate school is an opportunity for you to learn and develop two important areas:

What is high school?

High School – Attending a 4-year program at a high school will provide you opportunities to take classes that will Provide a career pathway for post high school success Academic rigor to complete A-G college course

What does it mean to be High School “ready”? To be high school ready is to do the best you can to

learn the skill set provided at the Intermediate school necessary for high school success

Academic growth Positive character traits

What is an Elective Class?

Elective classes are courses that are offered to students which do not meet promotion or graduation course requirements. who demonstrated proficiency and mastery in English and Mathematics.

Elective Courses provide you opportunities to learn, develop, and extend skills necessary for college and career choices such as:

Math, Science, Engineering, Technology, Music, Art, and Foreign Language

Elective classes are generally selected by students to support their college and career paths.

Academic electives are not chosen by student but are assigned to students who fail to demonstrate proficiency and mastery in English and Mathematics due to academic achievement gaps.

Intermediate High School

• Students get one elective per year and electives are 1 year classes. • Limited elective choices.•Academic electives may be assigned.

• Students must complete 50 credits of electives (the equivalent of 5 years)• Elective class may be semester classes.•More elective choices•Academic electives may be assigned.

What are Elective Course offerings?Career Pathway

What is a career pathway?

• A sequence of academic and technical courses that prepare students for successful completion of academic and technical requirements related to a career interest.

• Courses that

allow students to receive dual credit allowing students to enroll in high school courses and receive college credit.

• May satisfy the “A-G” entrance requirements for the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems.

Academically Ready for High SchoolWhat are our goals for each student?

1. Students pass all 8th Grade courses with at letter grade C or better.

2. Students who currently take Read180/System44 and Math Support are exited from the program to join the Core classes and take Elective courses.
