College Admissions Today In the world of 1900, there were 500,000 people who attended college. In 2000,

there were 100 million worldwide college students. In 2012 there were 183

million worldwide college students. By 2025, that number will be 200 million!

State Testing

1. Earn a cumulative passing score of 18 points, using seven end-of-course state tests

• Algebra I, Geometry, American Government, American History, English 1 and English II, Biology

2. College admission test

• Students must earn “remediation free” scores in English language arts and mathematics on the ACT or SAT

**These scores are subject to change and are determined by the

testing agencies on February 1 of the junior year (2018-19)

Graduation Requirements

22 credits required in grades 9-12 for graduation, including:

• English 4 years

• Math 4 years

• Science 3 years

• Social Studies 3 years (including one semester of Economics and one semester of American Government)

• Foreign Language* 2 years

• Fine Arts 1 year

• Senior High Health 1 semester

• Physical Education 1 year

• Electives 4 years

• *3 years of Latin for those who entered at grades 7 or 8, and either a fourth year of Latin or 2 years of a modern foreign language in grades 9-12.

Naviance – another helpful tool

•Allows student to maintain ongoing files of

career interests, personal inventories, and

college exploration

•Can receive email blasts about scholarships, college visits, and other important information

•Parents create email accounts to view information, etc.

NAVIANCE Benefits:

• Students learn more about themselves

• Families research careers, investigate potential colleges, and make an informed decision on which colleges they intend to apply

• Teachers submit letters of recommendation

• Counselors inform students and their parents about visiting colleges, scholarship opportunities, and most importantly, submit the documents required to complete the student’s college application
