President’s Message

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administrators, it gives me great plea-sure to welcome you to the Porterville College First Annual College Fair. With students as our focus, Porterville College provides our local and diverse communities an excellent educational experience that fosters intellectual curiosity and growth that prepares our students for personal and academic success. Established in 1927, Porterville College has a rich 90-year history providing local students, families, and Tulare County with

high quality, affordable higher education, and job training.

Porterville College is proud of its highly qualified faculty, staff, and administrators whose passion and dedication is to focus on providing you with a positive learning experience. As a comprehensive community college, we provide general, transfer and career education at the undergraduate level; training and services for updating skills in the existing workforce; and basic skills courses intended to better prepare students for a college level education.

Porterville College also offers various athletic programs and clubs, providing students with a well-rounded college experience. Our academic and vocational curriculum is developed and continuously updated to ensure that the college is meeting the needs of the students and the community.

Planning to Transfer Fall 2018? University of California (UC): Application filing period: November 1-November 30 Go to www.admission.universityofcalifornia.edu Click on “how to apply”under "top links" to obtain important information (There is a

Quick-Start guide you can download) Click on “Apply Now” and read the information provided carefully Click on “New Account”

California State University (CSU):

Application filing period: October 1-November 30 Go to www2.calstate.edu/apply Click on “Transfer” to obtain important information Click on "Apply Now" Click on "Create and Account"

Things to Remember: Have an unofficial copy of your transcripts, SSN, citizenship status, method of payment,

annual income at hand in case you need it for the application. CSU EOP Applicants: parent's employment background and two recommendations.

Unless you receive different instructions from the transfer schools, send an official PC transcript to CSU schools that include Fall 2017 grades and Spring 2018 enrollment. For the UC schools you must log in to your application and complete the "Transfer Academic Update" with a priority deadline of January 31, 2017.

Do not forget to apply for Financial Aid by March 2 (FAFSA). You may begin applying as early as October 1, 2017.

The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440) provides for the creation of Associate De-grees for Transfer to the California State University. These degrees are designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree (BA/BS/AB) and include Associate in Arts (AA-T) and Associate in Science (AS-T) degrees.

To earn an Associate Degree for Transfer:

• Student must complete 60 semester units in courses that are eligible for transfer to the CSU,including both of the following:

• Completion of IGETC or CSU GE Breadth• Completion of a major or area emphasis of at least 18 transferable units

• Minimum GPA of 2.0• No additional Porterville College graduation requirements apply

CSU Benefits of completing an Associate Degree for Transfer:

• Guaranteed admission with junior status to the CSU System, but not to specific majors or cam-puses

• Priority admission to local CSU campus and to a program or major that is similar to that of theAA-T/AS-T

• Not required to take more than 60 additional units at the CSU- for majors requiring 120 units• Not required to repeat courses similar to those counted toward the AA-T/AS-T• GPA bonus for impacted campus/majors• Not held to supplementary curriculum admission criteria

Please check with your counselor or go to www.ADegreeWithAGuarantee.com for additional infor-mation. This degree might not be the best option for students intending to transfer to particular CSU campus or to a university that is not part of the CSU system. Please consult with you counselor.
