Proposal 0910-044 generated some discussion; the general consensus of the Committee was that this course should have prerequisites. The Committee recommended to the proposal initiator that DES 1020 and DES 1020L should be the prerequisites, as these courses make the most sense – and the student must take them prior to this course. She agreed, so these two courses will be added; the current prerequisite will be deleted.

Proposals 0910-072 through 0910-080 were approved, with the conditions listed below:

For proposal 0910-074, the request was made to add the “C” designation after the number, since this course is combined class and lab; however, it was noted that the Catalog does not reflect any lab hours. It was suggested that the initiator determine what the lab hours should be and incorporate that into this proposal. He decided that the hours should be 3/2/1, and the CCC approved the proposal with that change.

For proposals 0910-072 and 0910-073, these new courses were approved conditionally. The initiator will go back to the department to determine what the fees for the courses will be and e-

mail this information to the Curriculum Department by February 17. Kim Adams will inform the CCC of the fees via an e-mail.

For 0910-074 and several other courses for which the department wants to make fee changes - the department will decide what the fees should be, prepare a CCM form and a memorandum listing the affected courses, and submit these to the CCC at its March 17, 2010 “clean-up” meeting for approval and inclusion in the 2010-2011 College Catalog.

0910-081 MUM 2600L The Digital Audio Workstation, CCA...............................Raul ValeryPurpose: To allow instruction of ever more complicated digital audio software in a single integrated course; Catalog Course Description: This course introduces students to sound recording and post-production techniques using a Digital Audio Workstation. This proposal was approved; however, the Committee was concerned that the course was assigned a number that is the same as a course with a “C” designation. Since the new course is strictly a lab course where digital software is taught, the department does not want to incorporate those hours into the existing course where the actual art of sound recording is taught and practiced. It was decided that the Curriculum Department would contact the State Course Numbering System (SCNS) and request that a different number be assigned.

Karen Borglum sent an e-mail to Matthew Bouck on February 11 with this request; he responded by changing the number to MUM 2634L. This change will be noted on the March Agenda as an Information Item, and the course will be placed in the Catalog and in Banner under this new number.

Proposal 0910-090 – It was felt by some members of the CCC that for the Catalog Course Description, the term “medical words” should be changed to something that sounds more technical. Betty Wanielista said that they would like to keep the terminology simple, so that students understand what the course is about. A suggestion was made to change this to “medical terms,” which was agreed upon.

Proposal 0910-096 – There was some concern about removing OST 1335, Business Communications, from the Intermediate Courses. Revised Withdrawal Policy – The Faculty Council, at its January 2010 meeting, approved revisions to College Policy 04-07, Academic Progress, Course Attendance and Grades, and Withdrawals.

Jean Marie Fuhrman, Faculty Council President, walked through the main items of change in the revised College Policy 04-07: Academic Progress, Course Attendance and Grades, and Withdrawals, and answered questions.

Honors Program Changes – The Honors Advisory Board met on January 22, 2010, and approved program changes related to admission to the Honors Program, appeal for admission, and appeal for graduation. The changes are outlined in the Memorandum (attachment provided) and Advisory Board Minutes (attachment provided). Two additional documents (attachments also provided) show revisions that will be made for the 2010 College Catalog. These changes will provide clarity for students and advisors.

Karen Borglum reviewed the changes that were outlined in the Memorandum and in the related attachments.

Respiratory Care, A.S. Degree Catalog Revision – An editorial change will be made in the Catalog for this program. Currently, the program prerequisites are listed under the heading, “Year 1, Fall Term.” This is not accurate, since they are required prior to beginning Year 1. An attachment was provided to show the changes that will be made.

Office Administration, A.S. Degree Catalog Revision – Currently, there is information pertaining to a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification listed at the end of this program. This is being replaced with information regarding the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist Certification.

This certification is not part of the program; it is intended as information only for students who may wish to take the courses that would be needed for that certification.

Dan Dutkofski spoke to this item, explaining that one course will come off the list that was provided – FSS 1051, Hearth Breads, since it is being deleted from the Catalog.

Change in NOTE for all A.A.S./A.S. Degree Programs – There will be an information change in the NOTE regarding B.A.S. degree options for A.S. degree graduates. The programs, specific changes for programs listed, and a sample Catalog mock-up for each was provided.

Service Learning NOTE in Catalog Changes – Changes have been made to the notes under the heading of Service Learning in the Catalog. These changes add clarity and incorporate the new SLS 2940H, Service Learning – Honors, as well as the eligibility requirements for this new course. The changes were provided in an attachment.

Revision to January CCC Item 0910-022, ALL 2940-2944 Internship and Service Learning Courses – A list of courses was submitted with this proposal, excluding the following courses – EDG 2941 and OST 2944. These courses will be brought to CCC at a later date with the correct wording for the revised prerequisites. The change from the global verbiage will be a different required GPA.

Karen Borglum noted that, as shown above, only two courses were actually affected by this change. In addition, some revisions were made to the wording of the global prerequisites that were approved last month, due to what was approved at Faculty Council versus what was submitted for the CCC’s approval.
