CCP vs. CP CCP=College Credit Plus CP=HS credit for traditional HS courses that colleges expect on HS transcripts to be “college ready” DE= Dual Enrollment “CCP” refers to college courses taught either on the IHE or FFHS campus. I will still refer to local courses as DE because that is what we are used to hearing and means college credit courses taught on our campus by our teachers but students still receive both HS and college credit. You’ll still see this referenced in the Course Registration Booklet and on the scheduling cards. FYI, scheduling will most likely start in February. I frequent the study hall room to meet with students. Students without a study hall can get a pass from a teacher to come see me. I’ll chase down the students who don’t meet with me and if they still fail to return a schedule card will just “understand” that these students want me to make a schedule for them. CCP used to be for grades 9-12 now open to grades 7-8. IHE set own entrance requirements.

Why do students take CCP Courses? Mandatory---You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school

graduation requirements. Extension---You completed your high school graduation required classes and you

want to begin college work. Exploratory---You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that

interests you. The new rule states 1 HS credit = 3 semester hours = 1 Carnegie Unit OHSAA rules still require successful attempt at 5 credits and FFHS adds in the 2.0 gpa. HS success means >= D. College Degree plans often need >= C or need to retake course. Summer 2018 = first eligible semester for school year 2018-2019 FFHS CCP classes most taken (all WSCC except EDUC w/ MC) 9th Computers (Scott) 10th American History (Webb) 11th and 12th Government (Webb), PreCal/CollAlg--QuanMath/Stats/Trig (Sleek), Comosition I/II (VonKennell), Education (Pfeffer)

No GPA set by ODE/OHED (formerly OBR), however, IHE may set criteria involving GPA. IHE entrance requirements must be the same for native and CCP students. Accuplacer is a college board test; think SAT. Students taking CCP @ WSCC may test via the guidance office. Testing date YTBD. This test is mandatory but students may still be eligible for enrollment via their transcript. Practice may be found https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/accuplacer-tests (links on right to sample questions) WSCC permits one test attempt then must have remediation before retesting for free

What’s your “5 Year Plan”? Where are you going? What are you doing after HS? Always look up information with the IHEs where you will be attending later and make sure to take the needed pre-requisites, now. For example, I spent 2 years @ WVU-P but dialogued with Marietta College to make sure I was on track for my major and all my credits transferred. FFHS working on Career Tech Ag Certification with the addition of an extra Ag teacher 2018-2019. All grades are permanent. FFHS permits grade replacement for a C or lower if retaken within one year. IHEs set own rules for transcript consequences regarding repeated courses. A repeated course still counts against a student’s 30 hours per year. It would be just like taking another course. Current CCP funding permits only retakes for classes with a final grade of W or F. Students may retake college courses and self pay for grades of C or D and still have FFHS grade replacement on HS transcript. New rule proposal states that students on CCP Probation may NOT retake a subject (or same course) in which student earned D, F, or W (no credit). Weighted grades are not applicable for FFHS; no weighted grades However, other schools may weight AP courses. This means they should also be weighting all CCP courses.

Max hours between HS and IHE is 30 semester hours. 1 HS credit = 3+ semester hours .666 HS credit = 2 semester hours .333 HS credit = 1 semester hour Athletic Eligibility Warning---All classes are not =; When considering 5 courses attempted successfully with a 2.0 gpa, be careful with 1-2 hour courses. Other Impact…There will likely be no more double associates degrees unless you pay your own $ after 30 hrs. AIR Score Crosswalk for Gov’t, Am Hist, and Biology. Students must still take AIR Biology test but do not have to take Gov’t or Am Hist.

At the beginning of each semester, Mrs. Shultz provides schedules to all CCP students with handwritten equivalencies for both HS and College hours for the 30-hr credit check.

Good rule of thumb when Mrs. Shultz used to coach students when she taught college was to budget 3 hours for every hour in class (1 hour of class plus 2 hours of “homework”). So, a 4 hour class would require students 4x3=12 hours per week just for that one class. This means a student taking an average of 15 hours of coursework should require 15x3=45 which is a typical work week for most employees. Now think of tossing in an extra curricular activity, a job, a significant other. Are there enough hours in the week to be successful in all the CCP courses in which a student is enrolled?

Some colleges may require students to declare a major sooner when transferring in so many CCP credits. Upon graduation, students should be treated as any other incoming freshman with regards to financial aid, scholarships, etc. regardless of CCP hours transferring.

FFHS requires reimbursement for F or W for course final grades. Watch for IHE deadlines for penalty free withdrawal. Most IHEs require a school counselor signature to drop courses because we need to check graduation requirements. Current rule----Withdrawn or Failed courses may be repeated via CCP but count towards the 30 hours for the year. New rules proposal changes for repeating if on CCP Probation.

Option A---You pay; credit NOT disclosed to HS (could petition HS later to accept if you did well); still permanent grade at IHE that must be reported to future IHEs Option B---State of Ohio pays; credit automatically disclosed to HS and a permanent grade on the HS transcript; IHE consumes fees and HS pays for books; books provided to on campus CCP students; See handout for textbook info/instructions. Available @ annual meeting and linked on guidance website titled CCP Enrollment and Textbook Rules EEP (Early Enrollment Program)---NOT CCP but local IHEs use funds to support HS students attending college; may need to pay for books; EEP offered year round and WSCC will use when students have not proven college readiness or need credit recovery (1 course per semester)

WSCC summer transcripts sent end of August and updated @ FFHS. Total credits and Cumulative GPA affected but NOT athletic eligibility. Athletic Eligibility (includes Marching Band and Cheerleading) for fall sports is determined by the GPA on the report card for Term 4. Summer work does NOT impact athletic eligibility.

Not all credits are = Watch for course descriptions with TAG (Transfer Assurance Guide) and OTM (Ohio Transfer Module) labels. For example Comp 1 often equals Comp 1 but Principles of Chemistry is not = to General Chemistry. Mrs. Shultz learned this when she was an undergrad and had to do Chemistry again when going from WVU-P to MC. OTM and TAG are only guarantees for Ohio Public IHEs. Private IHEs in Ohio and out of state IHEs set their own rules about transferable credits. Check out Ohio.gov and Ohiohighered.org for TAG/OTM conversions. https://transfercredit.ohio.gov/ap/20?0::NO:20:: https://www.ohiohighered.org/transfer/reportingsystem Start at final destination and work backwards…If my goal is OSU then dialogue with OSU to see what you should be taking at WSCC/MC and what transfers.

If you plan to go part-time on IHE campus, FFHS Master Schedule takes precedence over IHE schedules. This means if you miss a FFHS CCP course then you will be marked absent. Do NOT double book courses. Both WSCC staff and I review student schedules but students sometimes try to underestimate the drive time. If you are missing class due to school activities IHE rules may be different than FFHS rules. Make sure to talk with all teachers/professors. Thank you for coming. Please make sure you signed in to prove your attendance and fill out and sign the “FFHS letter of intent” (due April 1). If you are still interested but undecided, fill out the paperwork anyway and let me know later that you do NOT want to participate. If you are taking courses @ WSCC on their campus, you will need to schedule with Debbie Gurtis. Call/email now to make an appointment. I’m sure her schedule is filling up!
