What is College Credit Plus?

• Launched in 2015/2016• Increases college access and enrollment• Provides students with choices and challenges• Encourages students to pursue postsecondary options after HS graduation

How does it work?

• Open to college ready students entering grades 7-12• Students must be enrolled in both college and secondary school• Students earn transcripted college and high school credit upon course

completion• Weighting of course grades

• If applicable to your high school, check with your school counselor

• Summer Semester• (3 sessions, 5 or 8 week courses)

• Fall Semester• (16 week courses)

• Spring Semester• (16 week courses)

Participation• All public secondary school districts and public higher education institutions must participate

• All non‐public secondary schools may participate

• All non‐public postsecondary schools may participate

HS Athletic Eligibility• CCP students can be HS athletes• Follow OHSAA guidelines• Athletic eligibility requires students to pass five (5), 1 credit courses or equivalent per grading period – Summer does not apply

• Eligibility is determined on a quarterly basis• College midterm grades may be required for eligibility

College Course Load

• Limit of 30 credits per year• Limit of 120 credits maximum, even if beginning CCP in 7th grade• Cannot attend beyond high school senior year• Verify course choices with your school guidance counselor

Option A 

• Student earns both high school and college credit

• No cost to student and their family unless student earns a grade of W, F, NF, SF

• Costs are funded by the state, the school district, and the college/university

• Student can attend Summer, Fall or Spring

Option B• Occurs once student has gone over allotted credit hours per academic year• Student earns high school and/or college credit• Cost of program is funded entirely by student and their family• Tuition and fees are paid directly to the university• Student can attend Summer, Fall or Spring

Parent/Student Requirements

• Attend a HS informational meeting 

• Complete Intent to Participate form by May 1st

• Sign form verifying counseling requirement with school counselor has been met

• Complete CCP application at college(s) of choice

• Meet Remediation Free Standards and college/university admission criteria

*New Guidelines for 2021‐2022 Academic Year*

• House Bill 404 has passed which allows flexibility for the 2021‐2022 academic year ONLY.

• Students applying for Summer 2021, Fall 2021, or Spring 2022 do not require ACT/SAT or placement testing scores.

*New Guidelines for 2021‐2022 Academic Year*

• High school students must have a 3.0 or higher unweighted cumulative GPA, and their course record may be evaluated in core subject areas.

• Middle School students must have a 3.0 or higher unweighted, cumulative GPA, and their course record will be evaluated in core subject areas.

• If a student does not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement but has ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer scores that meet the Ohio Department of Education remediation free 

standards, the student will be considered for admission.

Ohio Remediation Free Standards

In addition to testing remediation free, students must meet the admission requirements for the college/university to which they are applying.  Students may still be required to take course placement assessments for these subject areas.

High School Requirements

• No HS graduation requirement may be waived

• CCP does not replace requirements to earn a high school diploma

Course Being Questioned for HS Graduation Requirement?

• Principal may require a course syllabus from the university course

• Mediation of disputes will be determined by the State Board of Education

Granting HS Credit

• Student must provide official grades to HS for GPA/Class Rank calculations within 4 weeks after semester ends

• HS transcript must reflect each university course

• Grades earned in university courses are included in GPA/Rank

• Courses must be taken for a letter grade (no pass/fail)

Taking Classes

• Research course options

• Select courses that will apply toward a certificate or college degree program

• Know how the course(s) you take will apply to your intended college degree

• Enroll in non‐prescriptive and non‐sectarian courses that apply toward that degree

Underperforming Rule• New state policy for CCP Probation and CCP Dismissal• After the end of the semester, colleges must send student grades and cumulative GPA to the secondary schools

• Secondary schools must review GPA to determine if CCP Probation or CCP Dismissal applies to each student

• If student attends more than one college, the GPAs must be averaged to determine CCP GPA

CCP Probation

• If a student has a cumulative GPA of lower than 2.0 in the college courses 

OR

• If a student withdraws from, or receives no credit for, two or more courses in the 

same term

CCP Dismissal

• A student is placed on CCP Dismissal when the student has failed to increase his or her GPA to above a 2.0 in College Credit Plus courses during the CCP Probation term. 

• Once a student is dismissed from the CCP program, the student may not enroll in college courses for the following college term. 

• After one college term on CCP Dismissal, the student may submit an appeal to request the secondary school to allow student to participate in College Credit Plus.

• Placement Assessments• ALEKS Assessment (if interested in math courses)• Follow Kent State student policies• Attend classes and maintain a strong GPA
