A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM SMSD BOARD PRESIDENT CALDWELL
Stafford MSD Board President Christopher Caldwell wrote a letter
to the Stafford MSD Community, to confirm the District’s strong
commitment to Safety and Security. He said the District WILL
have School Resource Officers on campus in 2018-19 and
beyond.

STAFFORD PD’S GENEROSITYThe Stafford Police Department
has gone above and beyond all
expectations of community
engagement.
On Thursday night, Stafford PD --
including Chief Ramirez, Assistant
Chief Horn, School Resource
Officers and several other SPD
personnel -- distributed backpacks
and other school supplies, while
interacting with SMSD students
and families at Stafford
Elementary's Meet & Greet Event.

SMSD/BEST BURGER EVENTStafford MSD and Best Burger are two
long-term staples of Stafford.
The two legends collaborated for an
event on Monday night. Trustees, staff,
students and families enjoyed
excellent food.
We were happy to give away free SMSD
T-Shirts, Car Flags, Wristbands and
more.
If you missed this event, we will have
those giveaways – plus buttons at
Saturday’s SMSD Proud Event.
CONVOCATION 2018Tuesday, August 7 was a great day for Stafford MSD.
All returning SMSD employees received a $200 Retention Incentive
Check, thanks to the support of the Stafford MSD Board and the
Stafford City Council.
The delicious luncheon was followed by excellent keynote speaker,
Dr. Adolph Brown, who shared his powerful message with the Faculty
& Staff.

CAMPUS WILL OPEN DURING THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR.

CHAPTER FOR SMSD AND THE MIDDLE
SCHOOL. IT’S THE BEGINNING OF BECOMING
AN APPLE DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL.

THAN 90% OF THE TEACHERS ARE APPLE

CAM MONTGOMERY EXCELS AT RICE UNIVERSITY
Cam Montgomery, a 2017 Stafford High School graduate, credits his time
at SMSD with preparing him for Rice University.
"I believe Stafford prepared me academically for Rice," Montgomery said.
"It also prepared me athletically."...
Montgomery, a sophomore at Rice University, is studying Sport
Management with plans to add a Business minor.
"Rice is going to get the best out of you, on and off the field," Montgomery
said.
SWC HALL OF FAME SELECTS MICHEAUXCongratulations to Stafford High
Automotive Teacher Larry Micheaux!
Micheaux, a founding member of Phi
Slama Jama at the University of
Houston, was selected to be inducted
into the Southwest Conference (SWC)
Hall of Fame next month in Fort Worth.
Micheaux played in two NCAA Final
Fours, alongside Hakeem Olajuwon and
Clyde Drexler, for the UH Cougars before
playing in the NBA for the Kansas City
Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and the
hometown Houston Rockets a year
before they became ...Western
Conference Champions.
From 1985-94, Micheaux played
professional basketball in Italy and
Spain.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR LEASES NEW CAR
Stafford MSD 2017-18 District Teacher
of the Year was presented with a
complimentary summer vehicle lease
from Classic Chevrolet of Sugar Land.
Ray Aguilar of Classic promised Ms.
Bratcher a different vehicle for each
month of the lease, at her request.
Her vehicle for August?
...A Chevrolet Tahoe.
Congratulations, Ashley, and we look

start on Aug. 15.

LOCAL COUPLE MAKES BACKPACK DONATION
Stafford MSD is grateful for the
generous donation of
backpacks and school supplies
from Ross & Grace Cahee -- two
former public education
administrators.
They donated a total of 150
backpacks -- each of them
stuffed with school supplies.
WELCOME MS. LANGE!On behalf of Stafford Elementary Principal Twyla Hynes and
her dedicated staff, we would like to welcome new Stafford
Elementary Assistant Principal Ciji Lange to the District!
Ms. Lange grew up in Waller County and taught at her alma
mater, Royal ISD, as well as Alief ISD.
She has two Master's Degrees from Prairie View A&M
University in Administration and Counseling, respectively.
..."I look forward to working with the students and the
teachers," Lange said. "I love that Stafford is close to
Houston, but is a small enough district to be so close-knit."
STAFFORD HIGH FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGEThe Stafford High Football Team began
practice on Monday, and they will have
the annual Red & White Scrimmage at
5 p.m. Saturday, August 11 at Spartan
Stadium.
Stafford will host Class 5A Porter in a
scrimmage on Friday, August 17.

TURNER IS SECOND NATIONALLY
Stafford’s Dylon Turner finished second in
a national Golden Gloves Boxing
Tournament.
His first priority is academics. Turner is an
honor roll student who will start his first
day as a Stafford Middle School Seventh
Grader on Wednesday.

MARCO’S PIZZA PARTNERSHIP
Thank You to our community partner, Marco's
Pizza of Stafford. They have donated 48 gift cards
to Stafford MSD. In addition, as part of Stafford
MSD Proud Month (Aug. 1-31), Marco's Pizza of
Stafford will provide a 20 percent discount for all
students, teachers and staff.
On Thursday, Marco’s Pizza of Stafford owner
Dannish Daya, a former SMSD student, met with
Stafford Elementary and Stafford Intermediate
Principals as part of Stafford MSD Proud Month.

BOND SALE = TAXPAYER $AVINGS• SMSD sold $52 Million worth of the $62
Million Bond on Feb. 28.
• The remaining $10 Million will be sold in
2019, in a bank qualified option plan, as
recommended by our financial advisors,
RBC Capital.
• RBC Capital recommended two sales
instead of one, lowering the cost from
$8.75 per month per $100,000 valuation
to $7.08 per month for taxpayers.
