Academic Opportunities The Academy for Technology and Academics (ATA) offers 11 Major programs that support student career and post-secondary goals. Students may earn a license or certification in one of our career major programs which may reduce or eliminate the need to take some Post-Secondary classes. Majors include: Automotive, Building Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary, Esthetics, Fire Management Services, Digital Art and Design, Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Pre-Med, and Pre-Engineering. ATA courses include Advanced Placement (AP), Honors, College Prep classes as well as Dual-Enrollment classes offered through our partnership with Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC). Several Major programs offer a Technical Advanced Placement (TAP) agreement with HGTC which expands the number of course offerings beyond those offered only at ATA. Entrance Requirements Students interested in attending a Major program at the ATA may apply online via the Horry County Schools website in their 10th-grade year so that they may be accepted and attend for both their Junior and Senior year. Some programs may have additional requirements that are in conjunction to state requirements for certifications. Students must adhere to the district’s deadline dates for application submission and return acceptance agreements. Academic Accomplishments & Recognitions ATA has been rated as the best performing career center in the state of South Carolina. We have a large portion of our Seniors representing the top 10% of their graduating class. We have had students in our clubs and organizations finish first at the state and national level. We have also had visits from the National Department of Education and our very own Lt. Governor in recognition of sustained high performances. Ford Motors recognized our automotive program for their success and performance utilizing their training equipment. We are also the only school in the state to offer the CMAA program and the first to offer the DRONE certification as a course.
