SALE REPORT

~ What a day! With over 2,300 lots sold to a crowd of over 1,100 buyers

a great day was had by all who attended.

137 PIGS – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH A nice entry of 137 pigs saw a much better trade overall. 23 cull

sows saw a very strong trade with the best at £200 for M/S Ham of Bratton with others at £194, £165 & £162 from the same good farm. M/S Petherick of Boscastle hit £190 with others at £186. Willie & Ann Jameson of Lifton hit £140 with Robert Squire of Torrington at £148. A strong entry of prime pigs saw a much better trade with a top call of £120 for the best of a nice run from Andrew & Tina Pengelly of Callington with others from the same good farm at £115 & £100. M/S Rogers of Camelford saw their best at £100 with plenty of light weights at between £85-£95. Plenty of stores forward with a superb run from John Kingdon of St Mawgan, Cornwall topping at £75 with others at £60, £45 & £44 from the same good farm.

Just a handful of goats saw young males to £18 from Winston Davey of Launceston.

Next Pig sale at Holsworthy Livestock Market will be on Saturday 4th March 2017.

609 MACHINEY (+ VAT) – AUCTIONEER MARK BROMELL & JAMES MORRISH

One of the largest ever entries of ‘plus VAT’ machinery saw buyers in attendance from all over the South of England pushing the best to a top call of £14,600 for the 2007 JCB 8tn Digger in from T&C Congdon of Marhamchurch, Cornwall. The 2009 Landrover Defender from M/S Wilton saw a massive amount of interest going to Mid Devon for £11,700. The 2011 Ford Ranger (substantial bodywork damage) sold really well at £8,200 whilst the pick of several estate tractors saw a top call of £5,100 going to its new home in Bude. A big entry of farm machinery saw the Teagle straw chopper go to the Head family from High Bickington at £3,800, Krone mower at £1,750, Muckmaster

trailer at £2,700 and the Bobcat 443 sell really well at £2,650. After dozens of phone calls and enquiries from perspective buyers the 60ft x 40ft ‘new’ agricultural building hit £7,900 going to its new home near Ashwater with the car garage selling to the same buyer.

The 2 dispersals of sheep equipment saw a huge amount of interest with the Air assisted sheep turn over crate from Roger & Di Passmore of Instow with a whole host of Wooden Walk through feeders between £250-£300 each. Their lamb weigher hit £250 with the Wooden lamb adopter at £100.

M/S Petherick saw their well-maintained sheep equipment sell well with the turn over crate at £400, lamb adopter at £360, foot bath at £380 and part sheep race at £305.

The regular consignment of 170 lots of ‘new’ hand tools from Chepstow, Wales saw a

very large crowd of buyers keen to purchase with the best lot being £160 for the pick of 3 chainsaws.

709 MACHINERY (NON VAT) – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL A huge entry of over 700 lots saw a big crowd of buyers present from start to finish. Top call in this section was £1,950 given for the Fordson Standard (non-runner) tractor from the dispersal on behalf of M/S Wilton of Launceston and went to its new home at Roborough near Plymouth. Lot 563 was next to be sold being the Super Dexter (running, but no papers) and sold to a North Cornwall buyer at £1,550. The Richardson family sold their vintage Universal 445 tractor (no papers) at £1,100 whilst the Fordson Major, being a complete renovation project hit £500.

M/S Frain of Launceston saw a strong trade for their Horse trailer galloping away to £1,400 whilst the pick of 7 flatbed (non vat) trailers hit £1,325. Will Jennings of Torrington sold his Dexter tractor well at £950 whilst the small wooden grain trailer in from Thornbury reaching £900.

A total of 12 cars & vans went under the hammer with the ’07 reg Partner van from Bridgewater sold at £900, whilst the ’09 Ford Focus car (sold with no warranty) raced away to £950.

The estate of M/S Wilson included a huge line up of tools & vintage goods to include the vintage plough hitting £100, rotavator at £130, vintage grass rake at £100, whilst the best of over 500 hand tools topped at £38.

Horse brasses fly!

In the Auction Room a lifetime collection of over 250 lots of horse brasses, heavy horse tack

and other items sold to an enthusiastic audience in the Room and online.

Pick of the collection was a large brass saddle bridge piece which sold to a Welsh bidder online for £440. Other excellent prices were single horse brasses Langler of Ashburton £90, Puddy of Poole £70 and Speed the Plough £85. Pair of candle lamps £135, 6 bell Martingale £90, and a strap with Lacock & Frome breweries £115.

Speaking after the sale Kivells Auctioneer James Morrish said “What a huge day with over 1,100 perspective buyers

present trade was superb. Buyers & sellers travelled from Penzance, Bristol & Kent to trade at Holsworthy with several staying at Bed & Breakfast and Hotels within the area and many of the shop keepers in the town reporting a

much busier trade than usual”.

Mary Phillips had a good day on behalf of the Devon/Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust raising over £210 for them (the most Mary’s raised at Holsworthy Machinery!).
