Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
From Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. Paul
Dear Friends, This month, we have several reminders of the importance of the Rosary as a prayer for individuals and families. October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary; October 13 is the 100th anniversary of the final appearance of Mary in Fatima, the "Miracle of the Sun"; and October 22 is the Feast of St. John Paul II, the pope who promoted the Rosary and devotion to Mary. The Rosary is an ideal family prayer, because it can even be prayed by young children. It takes about 10-15 minutes to pray, so it can be prayed after supper or before bed-time (and commuters can pray it while driving to/from work). The mysteries that we focus on, and the repetition of the Hail Marys helps us to meditate on the life of our Lord. It also gives us a time each day to ask Mary and our Lord for the help that we need. Praying the Rosary always brings peace and a renewed trust in God. If you have rarely or never prayed it before, I encourage you to pray it this month. May our Blessed Mother Mary bring us peace and keep us close to our Lord. Fr. Paul

St. Joseph Parish Annual Parish Concert
Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 2 P.M.
The music ministry invites you to join us on Sunday afternoon, October 22nd, 2017, at 2PM in the upper church, for our St. Joseph Parish Annual Concert. Both our Adult and Youth Choirs and The Messengers (our young adult music group) will perform, and there will be an opportunity for the audience to join with us in
singing!
This year's program is entitled "Singing the
Seasons", and is being dedicated in loving
memory of Reverend Edward F. ("Fr. Ed")
Doughty and Anna M. Scully, whom we lost
this past year, and a portion of the proceeds
from our concert program ad book will be
donated to The Marine Corps Scholarship Fund
and St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
There will be a luncheon in the social center following the concert, catered by Carroll's Restaurant in Medford
(kindness of parishioner, Attorney Victor Garo). Please note: when you arrive for the concert, you will receive a voucher which will enable you to attend the luncheon.
We urge you to take this opportunity to come and join our choirs and instrumentalists in a prayerful and playful musical celebration! For more information, please e-mail Betsy at [email protected] or call 781-396-0423

The Increased Offertory Campaign: GIVING AS A RESPONSE
As our collaborative parishes of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Joseph prepare for the Increased Offertory Campaign, we are challenged to evaluate our lives and give back a just portion of our blessings to God.
In spite of challenging economic times, we are fortunate people. Our thanks for these and many other blessings should be reflected in what we give to our Church.
Remember, giving opportunities come in many forms, not just financial. Give of yourself as a volunteer and donate your time to worthwhile causes. “What you give will be returned tenfold”.
We are grateful to the members of the Campaign Team, who have graciously accepted parish leadership positions and are working diligently to make the Increase Offertory Campaign a success!
There will be a Program Advocate Meeting on October 12, 2017 at 7:00pm at the St. Francis Parish Center. Please consider volunteering your time and talent to this worthwhile effort.
2 Corinthians 9:11-12 “You are being enriched in every way for all generosity, which through us produces thanksgiving to God,
for the administration of this public service is not only supplying the needs of the holy ones but is also overflowing in many acts of
thanksgiving to God.”
