Crosswalk Safety In the interest of safety, we ask that all

pedestrians use the marked crosswalks. Reinforce

with your child to wait until the vehicles have come

to a complete stop before stepping out into the

street.

According to traffic law, vehicles must yield the

right of way to pedestrians at a crosswalk.

Please slow down and stop

for pedestrians!

Our parking lot is for staff use only and

our bus lane is for buses only. Please

also refrain from blocking the traffic

flow into the parking lot and bus lane by

stopping to drop off your children at the

entrance. Thank you for your

cooperation.

Medications If your child is needing to take medication at school please contact the office as a medical

form must be filled out.

We cannot administer medication to a child without a prescription label, a Severe

Medical Form filled out and a spoon or cup to measure the correct dose.

This is for the safety of all our

children.

Terry Fox Run

Students at EBMS participated in the annual Terry Fox Run on September 29. We would like to acknowledge all of the families who donated to our Terry Fox event ! Well done! We are still in the process of tallying the

money raised for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Colder Weather Just a reminder to please ensure that your child

is dressed for the chilly morning weather conditions. As we creep towards

winter, now is a good time to check and make sure you know where the toques,

mittens and boots are!

EARLY DISMISSAL

Early dismissal is the first Wednesday of each month. Classes dismiss at 2:30 PM.

Thank you to all the parents who have already

volunteered on field trips this year! We couldn’t do this without you!

Student Absences/Lates

For the safety of our students it is extremely important to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. If the school is not notified, we are obligated to phone your home or office to confirm the absence. Students who arrive late must report to the office to get a late

slip before going to class. Thank you for your assistance!

Beau’s Book Bag

The library is in full swing and it’s going to be another great year at the library!

Again this year, the Gr.4 to Gr.6 students will get the opportunity to vote for their favourite book in the

Young Reader’s Choice Awards (YRCA). Established in 1909, the Pacific Northwest Library Association

(PNLA) includes library staff and like-minded people from Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho,

Montana, and Washington. They have sponsored this international young reader’s award since 1940.

Nominated books are submitted the year prior and the 2018 nominee list has now been posted. Students

will get a chance to read from the selection of books and vote for their favorite! The winner of the

student’s choice award will be determined in April 2018.

This is the 2018 nominee list (we will be reading from the Junior Division):

health, and self-help. You will be able to sign out books under your child’s account.

Library Club (aka Library Ninjas) will start up this month for the Gr.5’s and 6’s and will run until

Christmas. In the New Year, Library Ninjas will be offered to the Gr.3’s and Gr.4’s. The students will

get to know the inner-workings of the library.

The eReaders will be back in circulation this month. Students who didn’t get a chance to use one last

year (this year’s Gr.3’s and new students) will be the first to try one out. We have 208 books (in French

and English) to choose from and there’ll be new books added!

Library hours: Monday to Friday 9am - 2:45pm Contact: Nikki Mulholland, Library Technician @ [email protected] The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. Dr. Seuss

The Laser City reading sheets can be handed back to the library from now until June for a chance to win 2 free games of laser tag. Students can enter the draw

as many times as they like by asking their teacher or librarian for a new reading log sheet. Happy reading!

Counselor’s Corner

Our school year is off to a great start! It has been wonderful to touch base with the students and their families as we plan for the incredible year ahead!

I would like to make you aware of some small group programs for those students who would benefit. We would like to begin them this month. Please contact Mrs. Lewis at the school 780-929-2175 or through email at [email protected] to register or for more information.

Talk Club Small activity and discussion group focused on helping children better understand their feelings related to recent and significant family change. This change could be as a result of (but not limited to) a marriage break-up, divorce, new baby, new marriage, blended families, death in the family, recent move, addictions or incarceration. This is offered in conjunction with Beaumont Family and Community Support Services. It will run for approximately 10 weeks, 40 minutes a week, during the school day.

Taming Your Worry Dragons (Grades 1-3) Stress Busters (Grades 4-6) A 6 week program delivered in partnership with Michelle Crosby- Family School Liaison Worker, helping children identify the signs of worry and anxiety, recognizing when anxiety is a good and normal feeling, and developing strategies when worry becomes a problem.

Girls’ Circle For girls 9 and up, this lunch hour group meets weekly for 8 weeks. Delivered in partnership with Michelle Crosby- Family School Liaison Worker, it is a program that promotes resiliency and fosters self-esteem, building authentic relationships, conquering self-doubt and negativity. Girls take part in creative activities with journaling and healthy discussion. Please contact me early as space is limited. Programs may be offered more than once during the school year. ROMAN CATHOLIC RELIGION PROGRAM INFORMATION

Catholic Religion Classes are held on Wednesdays from 12:50-1:56 p.m. Religion Teachers;

Grade 1/2: Sara Rinaldo Grade 4: Lynette Johnston Grade 2/3: Carla Bowick Grade 5/6: Jo-Anne Hendriks The teachers at Beau Meadow hope to form an effective team with you as we try to share the good news about the Lord Jesus with your children. The program we use is the Catholic “Born of the Spirit”, the English Canadian Catechetical Series. Grade 1: “We Belong to God”. We deepen the experience of belonging within which we discover our Father, the God of Jesus, as the fundamental source of belonging. Children will be taught how to make the “The Sign of the Cross”, and say the prayers: “The Our Father” and the “Hail Mary.” Grade 2: “We Belong to the Lord”. We deepen the experience of belonging to God by growing in friendship with the Lord Jesus. It is in this school year that many of the children will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Communion. See information below. Grade 3: “In the Spirit, We Belong”. We deepen the experience of belonging to God in and through a commu-nity of faith. Grade 4: “Come and See”. We explore the meaning of Jesus Christ for us today and the invitation to be his disciple and friend. The content of the year 4 program is the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ as announced by the evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Grade 5: “May We Be One”. We explore the Church as the assembly of God’s people and as the sacrament of God’s action among us. Grade 6: “You Shall Be My Witnesses”. We are called to be witnesses of God’s justice and love in the world by living a moral life. This program, based on the Bible, presents God’s covenant with us, as expressed through the Ten Commandments, the life and central moral teachings of Jesus, as well as his death and resurrection. It is in this school year that many of the children will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Information will be sent out shortly. Each of the programs are supported with songs, prayer, and the reading of Bible stories. Children express their understanding of the stories through drawings, writing, and drama. Throughout the year we will gather as a group in the gym to pray and learn more about our Lord. In addition to these times, we attend St. Vital church at the beginning of Advent and during the Lenten Season. Upcoming Events October 11th: We will be having a Thanksgiving Celebration in the gym at 1:00 p.m. Parents and siblings are wel-come. Father Arlan Parenteau and/or Michelle Felix our Pastoral Assistant, will be at the celebration. We are asking each student to bring a non-perishable item to donate to the Food Bank. First Reconciliation and First Communion - Both sacraments are being offered in the same year. However, if your child has one of these two and not the other, we can also accommodate. Parents must attend the "Parent information session" on September 26th OR October 10th. This evening is es-sential that all parents be in attendance. Please contact Michelle immediately if it is missed. Important dates and ONLINE registration are found here: http://www.saintvitalparish.com/sacraments/reconciliation-first-communion/Registration will remain open from July 1st until October 15th and requires a copy of your child's baptismal certificate (please bring to parent session). For those who register over the summer, you will receive confirmation of registration in September.

Grade 2: Once your child has reached Grade 2, formation for these sacraments start immediately. Please check the website for more information.

Grade 3 to Age 15: Even if your child missed receiving both sacraments in Grade 2, it's not too late. They can still be enrolled in the program. Once they are older than 15 years, they must go through the RCIA program.

Confirmation - This is a very important sacrament but unfortunately sometimes forgotten. Your child will be sealed with the Holy Spirit and with that the Holy Spirit gives us gifts, gifts that will strengthen us and give us the ability to do amazing things. Parents must attend the "Parent information/registration session" in November. This evening is essential that all parents be in attendance. Please contact Michelle immediately if it is missed. Important dates and SOME of the registration forms are found here:http://www.saintvitalparish.com/sacraments/confirmation/

Grade 6: Once your child has reached Grade 6, formation for confirmation starts in December. Please check the website for more information.

Grade 7 to age 15: If your child missed out on Confirmation in Grade 6, it not too late. However, once they are older than 15 years, they must go through the RCIA program.

If you have any questions about the Religion Program at Beau Meadow school please call any of the teachers above at 929-2175.

Orange Shirt Day was September 30th this year. This day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school and grew out of Phyllis' story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on

her first day of school at the Mission. http://www.orangeshirtday.org/ Last week, students learnt about treaties, heard a Métis storyteller and performer and were welcome to wear orange

shirts last Friday.

An immunization consent package from Alberta Health Services has been sent home with your child. Please check your child’s school bag for this package which contains information about the vaccines that your child is eligible for in the Grade 5 school based immunization program, along with a consent form for each vaccine. In order for your child to be immunized, each consent form must be signed and returned to your child’s school by the date indicated on the envelope. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lorna, Leduc County School Nurse, 780 980-4674. Thank you!

2017/18 School Fees

École Beau Meadow School is committed to providing quality and affordable education and exceptional learning environments for our students.

As a result of Bill 1, all BGRD families will see the elimination of two types of fees –Instructional Resource Fees for Basic Educational Services and Transportation Fees for Eligible (Funded) Students. See Bill 1: An Act to Reduce

School Fees Explained for more information.

Not all fees will be eliminated for École Beau Meadow School families in 2017/18.

In order to offer enhanced educational opportunities for students, fees are established to offset the additional costs incurred. These fees must meet specific criteria and be clearly expressed on the school’s fee schedule. All fee

schedules and fee policies are submitted annually for the Minister of Education’s review and approval. The approved fee schedule can be viewed by clicking the “Student Fees” link below.

http://ebms.blackgold.ca/parents/fees-payment/201718-student-fees/

Parents are eligible to have school fees waived in cases where they are unable to pay the fees for financial hardship.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
