1955 – Soviet Union and Eastern European countries formed a military alliance called the Warsaw Pact.

1961 – East Germany built the Berlin Wall around West Berlin to prevent more European from escaping communist rule in East Germany.

1989 – After east Germany protested for a democratic change the border guards opened the gates of the Berlin Wall and later that year removed the communist government in 1989.

1990 – East and West Germany reunified
