SERVICE EXCELLENCE

Like many Critical Access Hospitals SPRHC strives to sustain even the smallest of margins. With low census counts and a highly indigent population, efficiencies and continuous process improvement are focus points for strategic planning and collaboration. It truly is the talented staff and clinicians that make SPRHC such a vibrant community, from the bright, beautiful facility to the smiling faces and warm handshakes there are no strangers here. Working together to solve challenges is the culture that SPRHC has celebrated for over two decades; it is that type of collaboration that will soon allow SPRHC to deliver care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Through a contract with the State of Colorado, SPRHC is governed by the Huerfano County Hospital District, a Colorado Special District, directed by a 5 member, county-elected Board of Directors. Spanish Peaks Regional Health cares for the Huerfano County residents through the following Service Centers of Excellence: Spanish Peaks Hospital (Critical Access Facility and a Level 4 trauma center) with Spanish Peaks Specialty Clinic (e.g., General & Orthopedic Surgeons ); Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center (CMS “5 Star” Facility); and Spanish Peaks Family Clinics which includes a nationally recognized Outreach and Women’s Clinic. NEW TALENT

Lionel Montoya, MBA-F,CHFP knew he was at home as the new CFO of SPRHC when the Board of Directors cited the Pledge of Allegiance to start his first meeting. According to Lionel, since that day it has been his “honor to be able to serve the men and women that served our country.” As a Marine, he is used to meeting challenges with strength and leadership. As a husband and father Lionel is used to leading with compassion and fairness. In any regard, he is no stranger to hard work and did what CFO’s are expected to do. He built relationships with providers, employees and the community; and kept his focus on providing “Top Gun patient care.” Lionel is responsible for launching SPRHC into a new era of service excellence. Currently he is working with the Board of Directors to identify additional revenue opportunities, including re-designating some beds to long term care.

Another newfound initiative is the “BRIDGECARE HEALTH NETWORK” partnership between Parkview Medical Center, Mt. San Rafael Hospital, Prowers Medical Center, and Southeast Colorado Hospital District which leverages care sites and best practices to afford patients a robust regional network of service delivery. According to Lionel, in today’s healthcare environment “small and large systems need to work together.”

NEW VISION

Another of his first strategic moves was to bring Stephanie Warth CRCE-1, FHFMA in as Revenue Cycle Director for SPRHC, they worked together at Valley View Hospital in the past and have stayed in contact over the years through HFMA Colorado. Stephanie and Lionel are leading their team through a 100% Meditech conversion in the coming weeks in partnership with Parkview Medical Center. The four family practice clinics have utilized eCW since 11/2015 and now the hospital conversion will happen at midnight on 11/9/2016. According to Stephanie, “The Parkview expertise has been an incredible asset… in what has been “a very successful partnership with very nice people.” Stephanie plans to fully leverage the Meditech models to help SPRHC increase efficient and effective charge capture and revenue generation.

This new level of sophistication in service delivery and efficiency found within SPRHC doesn’t just include retooling practice management systems or tweaking vendor contracts; Stephanie and her team of twelve are working to become more proactive in patient outreach and increasing staff development. A Chart Audit R.N. program is another new initiative for SPRHC, currently being developed and then trained through multiple community partners including Colorado Rural Health Center.

Stephanie empowers her team to take a customer service model of care with their focus being “…meaningful patient contact.” Helping patients understand not just liabilities and appropriate sites of care (family clinics vs. ER,) but truly focus on qualifying as many as possible, for eligible coverage and financial assistance through their Compassionate Care Program. Another visionary contribution of Stephanie’s has been to embed Admissions staff in the daily rounding with clinicians, she has found this increases transparency and open communication around patient care, financial assistance and discharge planning.

Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center is committed to providing 5 Star Care while surrounded by some of the most beautiful views that Colorado has to offer, Come Join Them…
