◦Extrinsic motivators: motivation that comes from a person's environment, controlled by others. Pay, promotion, feedback, working conditions

The Individual experiences a loss of control over his/her own behavior so that previous intrinsic behavior diminishes.
Thus an individuals perception of causation of why he/she works on a task is lost.
When people are told that they will receive a tangible reward..
REWARD RATHER THAN TASK !!!
SOLUTION: verbal rewards seem to keep people more focused on task and encourage them do better.

If people pursue goals due to intrinsic interest

IF GOAL UNATTAINED- HAPPY (process of striving is fun)
LESS LIKELY TO ATTAIN GOALS- UNHAPPY
GOALS are less meaningful.
