Purpose
These guidelines are established in order to ensure that the process of approving e-learning courses at the Coggin College of Business is consistent with UNF policies
Guiding Principle:
To develop blended (Hybrid) / Online courses that intellectually stimulate and enable students to achieve their highest potential through guided discovery within the context of the professional standards established by the AACSB.
Definitions
The following scale to define blended/hybrid and online course for CCB – (Consistent with the FDLC adopted definitions)
Face time substitution Classification
50%-79% Hybrid
>=80% Online
Additional Notes
Virtual Classroom Academic Freedom:
All the provisions of the BOR/UFF agreement relative to Academic Freedom and Responsibility apply to the virtual learning environment. (see article 10 of the UNF UFF contract)
Intellectual Property Rights Clarified: Just as material created for use in the classroom (such as but not limited to syllabus, handouts, tests, etc.) is the Intellectual Property of the individual faculty member, the same intellectual ownership of such material applies to the distance/hybrid/online classroom. From time to time, the University has provided incentives for the creation of new courses and/or programs in the form of release time, supplemental or summer compensation, etc. Such incentives should not be considered payment for the purchase of such intellectual property. Thus, the intellectual property rights of the individual faculty member are preserved. If, however, the University specifically directs the faculty member to create the work or provides compensation to the faculty member for the creation of the work, then the University could claim ownership of the copyright interest in that work. (Based on email discussion with Richard Buck)

Guidelines / Key success factors for Electronic learning
A course needs to focus on the following 1 = Curriculum 2 = Instructional Design 3 = Instructor preparation with tools 4 = Student role in the class 5 = Quality of Assessments
Curriculum
The online course is aligned with appropriate AACSB guidelines as well as university catalog. The online course is clear in its description of learning objectives, schedule of work required, and
prerequisite skills or courses necessary for success Instructional Design
The course makes appropriate use of the electronic medium such as primary source materials, media, outside experts, and any other resources deemed necessary by the instructor for successful course delivery.
The course design has explicit opportunities for students to interact with faculty as well as students in both online and face-to-face manner.
The course design provides for engaged learning, self-direction, and development of critical thinking skills.
The course design explicitly provides a schedule of work, with appropriate definition of assignments, deadlines and student responsibilities.
Instructor Quality
The instructor has expertise in the subject matter being taught (AQ or PQ based on our standards) as well as be trained to teach online.
The instructor provides explicit opportunity for frequent and timely interactions with students both online and face-to-face environment.
Student Role
Students will have an opportunity to be active participants in a learning community based on student-to-student as well as student-to-instructor discussions.
The course emphasizes collaborative skills and teamwork. Assessment
The online course clearly describes how student performance will be assessed and is consistent with established college standards.
Student learning is continually assessed through a variety of evaluation methods
