CASPIAN OIL & GAS, INCORPORATINGREFINING AND PETROCHEMICALSEXHIBITION&CONFERENCE 2009

POST SHOW REPORTThe 16t h Int ernat ional Caspian Oi l and Gas, Refi ning and Petrochemicals 2009 Exhibi t ion

June 2-5, 2009, Heydar Al iyev Sport and Exhibi t ion Complex

Again, as it had been expected, the attention of the world oil and gas industry on June 2-5 was pinned to the

major event in the field of Oil and Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals in the Caspian region. The exhibition was

held under the patronage of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic, HE Ilham Aliyev who personally

participated in the opening ceremony on June 2. In his welcoming speech, the President of Azerbaijan said: I

would like to warmly welcome all of you. Today is a very momentous and traditional day for us. For the

sixteenth year in succession now, the International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition is being held in Baku.

This exhibition has found its niche in the international arena. When the first such exhibition was held in

Baku 16 years ago, it was perceived as a demonstration to the world of Azerbaijans energy potential. For

this reason, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the organizers of the exhibition because

people learnt of Azerbaijan thanks to their efforts.

The signing of the Contract of the Century and the subsequent signing two years later of the

contract for the Shah Deniz field today form the basis of Azerbaijans energy potential. Many international

contracts were signed in the years that followed this. Azerbaijan was able to establish itself as a country

that was very attractive to foreign investors. An excellent investment climate has been created in

Azerbaijan and this has undoubtedly had a positive influence on the non-oil sector.

We have been able to attract investment and develop deep-water deposits lying at depths of

thousands of metres. We have been able to export our oil and gas resources to world markets. Currently,Azerbaijan exports its energy resources via various pipelines. We have seven oil and gas pipelines. Every

one of these pipelines is of great significance. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Supsa and Baku-

Novorossiysk pipelines are all fully functioning today and they export Azerbaijani oil in different directions.

We must strive to ensure that the transparency achieved in the oil and gas sphere is extended to the entire

financial sector and that the entire economy of Azerbaijan is organized in the most transparent way

    possible.

The exhibition and conference was held with official support of the Ministry of Industry and Energy and

the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic. The organisers of the event are the International Exhibition

company ITE Group PLC, its partners Iteca Caspian LLC (Azerbaijan), ITE Moscow LLC (Russia), GIMA (Germany),

EUF (Turkey) and ITE Gulf FZ LLC(UAE),. The co-organizers of the event are the Chamber of Commerce and

    Industry of the Azerbaijan Republic.
