The concept of Base Variant and Alternative Variant allows to identifythe most suitable (by technical or financial consideration) contractualvariant of works to be executed. Base Variant and Alternative Variantmust be linked together by the use of a Reference Identifier. A BaseVariant can contain one or more Base Variant Item(s). An AlternativeVariant can contain one or more Alternative Variant Item(s). UsuallyBase Variants and the linked Alternative Variants are initially providedby the contracting authority. In some cases the contracting authoritymight provide only the Base Variant(s) requesting the tenderer toprovide Alternative Variant(s).
