1. Coco Chanel was born on the 19th August 1883, in a small city Saumur, France. Spent seven years in an orphanage, where she learned the trade of a Seamstress. School vacations were spent with relatives in the provincial capital, where female relatives taught Coco to sew. Left the orphanage at the age of eighteen and took up work for a local tailor.
2. First shop opened in 1912. Became one of the premier fashion designers in Paris, France. Fashion themes included simple suits and dresses, women's trousers, costume jewellery, perfume and textiles. Chanels fashion house had expanded considerably, with trends such as the quot;little boyquot; look.
