... there lived an ugly cockatoo.

He lived high in the trees. Some of his feathers were ugly. The feathers in his comb and wings were messy.

Down below, in the big cats’ cages, there lived three tigers.

One of the tigers had no stripes. He was just plain orange.

“May I have some of your stripes?” he asked his friends.

“No!” they roared. Then they laughed at him.

The plain tiger was very sad.

The tigers tried to catch the ugly cockatoo.

They wanted to chew him up and swallow him for dinner.

One night, the sneaky, ugly cockatoo tiptoed into the tigers’ cage.

He pulled out all of his ugly feathers.

He glued the ugliest feathers onto the sad tiger’s body.

The next morning...

... the tiger was surprised because of his beautiful, new, black stripes!
