With MUNSU going through a huge transition this year, there

has been a notable change of pace with regards to the MUNSU student bar, The Breezeway. The Breezeway hit a rough patch in the Fall of the year, with low attendance and skewed percep-tions of its purpose.

In the winter semester The Breeze-way programming attacked back with an aggressive, grass roots approach to the bar nightlife. The idea was simple, make The Breezeway a fun place to be. The strategy was to steer away from big shows, and focus on branding the week days as Breezeway exclusive events.

Breezeway Tuesday was Beer Pong, Breezeway Wednesday was Open Mic, and Breezeway Thursday was a club

night with the best drink specials in the city. These very simplistic concepts were heavily backed by a dynamic mar-keting campaign and numerous hype

generating gimmicks. Each ‘Breezeday’ had a series of conceptually based post-ers, dedicated to establishing that event as an element of campus life. Each event had a host, and each host was a structured component in the ‘Breeze-week’ branding strategy.

By making his/her name synonymous with the good times that were associ-ated with that evening, we could take advantage of relatively cheap guerilla marketing tactics. (i.e. DJ Nu Rock

hosting a surprise performance for the entire Res dining hall). We also took pictures every step of the way. Event photography was a easy way to gener-ate Facebook traffic, and also cross pro-mote the event. The hype of having a

professionally shot profile pictures was enough to get some people out. A strong graphic design team with solid creative marketing made for visually appealing advertising that created buzz in itself. This coupled with a heavy

push from social media tools resulted in a turnaround for The Breezeway. With a little tender love and care and some unique marketing campaigns, The Breezeway is now on a steady climb back to its previous glory.

Associate Director’s ReportNathalie CarrierPresident - Kismet Agency Tel: 613-864-8762

It’s been an incredible year on the Board! As you know, this was a

unique year where the alternate As-sociate Director, Adam Countryman, became the Co-Associate Director while I was on maternity leave. From my heart I thank you (again) Adam! It’s been amazing working with you!

We’ve worked hard to make lots of changes this year to benefit Associ-ate and School members. Some of the changes you’ll see at the conference this year are a “BIZ HALL PREVIEW” on the Thursday night to allow delegates to familiarize themselves with what Associates have to offer BEFORE the

Friday morning BLOCK BOOKING MEETINGS! The comedy showcase will be on Wednesday evening this year so comics can perform in front of a more “natural” audience and we’ve added more free time so Associates can spend more time with delegates.

Adam has created an amazing part-nership with North By North East (NXNE) that allows COCA members discounts to this amazing festival and helps grow COCA’s reputation within the music industry. He’s also put to-gether a panel of COCA members as part of NXNE educational program-ming that will deal with the impor-tance of the campus market in talent development. We are working on Associate and

sponsor retention to determine how to better serve our valuable Associ-ate members. One of the ways we feel Associates could be best represented would be to add another Associate Di-rector to the COCA Board. Adam and I were really happy with how things worked this year and think this could be a good way to move forward.

It has been a pleasure and an honour to represent Associates this year! I can’t wait to see you all at the confer-ence in June. To any new Assoicates please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about your first National Conference in London On-tario! As always, If any of you can think of ways we can better serve you please feel free to contact me.

Greetings from McMaster! We’ve had a successful second semes-

ter. We held acoustic nights every Tuesday, poker nights, and hosted breakdancer Luca ‘Lazylegz’ Pa-tuelli. We had sold out concerts with Classified and Marianas Trench and brought in the Disband judges for our Battle of the Bands finals. Finally, we hosted the Central Campus Music Explosion.

Our signature event, the annual MSU Charity Ball, held in February, had over 1400 students in attendance. We raised over $26,500 for the McMaster Children’s Hospital, Big Brothers Big

Sisters of Hamilton and the McMas-ter Alumni Senior Class Gift Cam-paign. The event, entitled The Curse of Amun Ra, was Egyptian themed. We brought in dancers from Habee-bas Dance Studio in Toronto to do a pharonic dance, and belly dance. Dave Rapelje, a COCA Alumni, helped us secure an aerial silk artist who wowed the crowd from the cen-tre of the truss pyramid. It's going to be tough to top this one! We also did something new this year, which wasn’t an event per say. We started a Formal Wear Drive on campus. It started with me cleaning out my closet and wanting to get rid of some dresses. It resulted in over 3 car loads of dresses, shoes, jewellery,

purses, suits and more being taken to a high school in the east end of Hamilton. Underpriviledged students

from across Hamilton came and vis-ited to get formal attire for their prom or grad. We collected over 100 dress-es, and inspired Mohawk College to get involved as well and do the same. Should you be interested in starting this on your campus next year, please contact me!

Concerts:

The Stills and Constantines, Social Code, Down with Webster, Arkells

Hail The Villian: was a special event for Sheridan students as well as alum-ni. The band had decided to have their website and first video animated by Ruine Entertainment Studio which was started and founded by a Sheri-dan alumni. Just before the band hit the stage, Sheridan students were treated to the world premiere of the video "Taking Back The Fear", which will be aired on Much Music and MTV starting in June 2010. To top that all off, the live video of “Taking Back The Fear” that will be released as a bonus on their debut CD was filmed on that night.

About 250 Sheridan students came out and attended the concert filled with hard hitting riffs and kick drums. They all became fans of the band who, as of April 12, has been picked up in heavy rotation on 250 radio stations in the United States.

MTV PUB Trafalgar/ MTV Bash @ Davis: This years Frosh wash wrapped up with MTV co-hosting the pub night at Trafalgar and Bash @ Davis.

The events were hosted by Paul the In-tern and Nicole Holness from MTV Live. A special part of the evening was Nicole performing her new single that was released the week of the events. Sheridan's frosh was then highlighted in a segment on MTV LIVE.

Speaker Series: This year we intro-duced a speaker series to the event programming to bring topics related issues that are relevant to our students and student life.

Raine Maida: We were fortunate to have the lead singer of one of Cana-da’s iconic rock bands to come talk to Sheridan about respect, War Child, and his music career. Raine captivated the audience, some of whom were sad that he didn’t perform, with such ease that students asked him questions during the noon event.

However that wasn’t all in the pre-sentation. We had arranged to have Raine spend 90 minutes with third year media arts recording students to get the inside scoop on the producing and recording industry. 15 third year students were able to openly and inti-mately ask him questions on how the industry really works.

K’naan: In between tour dates with Lenny Kravitz, Sheridan students were treated to Canada’s hottest hip hop sensation K’naan. He talked to the students about respect, his life growing up in Somalia, moving to Canada, his career and his family. He gave students advice and encourage-ment on how they can do anything with their lives if the believe in them-selves and in their talents. K’naan captivated the audience for a noon event that was standing room only.

The “Bash” Series @ REC ROOM: This was a series of monthly concerts/events that featured a headlining DJ or entertainer. Performers this year included Karl Wolf, Classified, 4Ko-rners DJ's, Starting From Scratch,

and Scratch, Scratch , Scratch.

So You Think You Can Dance: The 2nd annual SYTYCD was held this year to a sold out audience. This year we bigged it up by bringing in a fire dancer to kick off the night before the doors opened. We had the A2D2 Cir-pque company come in and open the night with acrobats and a silk routine from the rafters. As well, we had none other than Blake Mcgrath from the first ever SYTYCD on FOX, and judge on the Canadian show. The night was filmed and captured to a DVD. This included pre interviews with our own Sheridan TV and media students and was executed by SSUI VP’s and coor-dinators who all did an amazing job that night.

During the day we added a special treat for the 3rd year performing arts students who are in the dance pro-gram. Blake ran a private 90 min-ute bootcamp session where he gave about 30 students his undivided at-tention and expertise to our students.

Check Out the trailer for the dvd w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m /watch?v=gCipetk1j7A

Kids Christmas Party: This year we ran a children's Christmas party at The Davis Campus. We had an inflat-able Jumpy Castle, wood crafts from Home Depot, cookie decorating and coloring. We also had free pizza and of course Santa Claus came and ev-ery child received a present. We had around 75 kids come for the party and each one left with a smile.

Things have been amazing around here! We have so many great

things to report. First off, we are in-credibly proud to announce our part-nership with Diamondfield Enter-tainment! We now proudly represent the incredible Diamondfield comedic roster on Canadian campuses! The Diamondfield Roster includes co-medians such as Adam Growe (see below), Sean Cullen, Simon B Cot-ter, The Doo Wops, Perry Perlmu-tar, Ron Sparks, Winston Spear, sketch troupe The Imponderables and Much Music’s Trevor Boris as a Speaker.

Here’s what some of our extraordi-nary clients have been up to:

Rob Dyer - Skate4Cancer (S4C): We are SO happy to announce that Rob is finally home safe and recovering! Rob was sideswiped by a truck in the middle of the Australian Outback while completing the NZ/AU S4C. As difficult as it was, Rob flew home in hopes of returning to Australian soon. Kismet is INCREDIBLY happy to be presenting Rob as the Open-ing Keynote at the COCA National! We can’t wait for you all to hear his AMAZING story! Book soon because his calendar is almost full!

K’NAAN’s: summer looks a little like this: Killer World Tour, Young Art-ists for Haiti have now raised over 1 MILLION DOLLARS, he has become a world-wide sensation and Wavin’ Flag is theme song to this summer’s

main event the WORLD CUP!!! This, of course, means another trip for him to lovely South Africa… NOT TOO SHABBY! This year, 3 very lucky schools got to host him amidst his insane schedule. Let us know now if you’re interested in being one of the few next year!

Dan and Jessi: MTV’s most popular hosts will be back and ready for an-other year of dishing out the goods on campuses across the country. Their witty repartee, hilarious behind the scenes stories and outrageous antics

Kismet Agency And Diamonfield Entertainment: A Powerful Partnership

are a hit wherever they go!

Jason Mewes: The King of “Snootch” was so busy this year! He’s just fin-ished 2 new TV shows (out in 2011) and a movie with Harvey Keitel. He’ll be back to campuses this year to tell it like no one else does!

New to the roster…

The Adam Growe Comedy and Quiz Show: A comedy and a quiz show all in one, with the stand-up comedy of Adam Growe and a University / Col-lege specific comedy quiz show. Win money right out of Adam’s pocket in a unique and uproarious stand-up comedy quiz show, where people in the audience participate as contes-tants, become the stars of the show and win cash prizes live on stage!

Trevor Boris: Acclaimed comedian and Much Music’s own video roaster, Trevor shares the hilarious and not so hilarious moments in his life. With his new comedy DVD "Over Easy" out soon, he’s the perfect fit for many of your speaking events.

A special thanks to all of you who were so great to us at Kismet this year as we welcomed our newest addition – Freddy. We are so blessed to work with incredible people like you! Can’t wait to see you all at COCA and work with you in 2010-11!

This past year proved to be a great

one, noteworthy highlights included, Sue Johanson's Sex and Education Tour; talks on tough Canadian and Global issues by former UN Ambas-sador, Stephen Lewis; inspiration to 'Go Green' on campus with Chris

Turner; as well as the signings of hu-man rights activist and philanthro-pist, Nazanin Afshin-Jam; and the ever-popular and beloved musician, Bif Naked.

We are thrilled for the coming year.

Sue Johanson's tour is set to kick off once again, so be in touch to secure your date as they will go fast. For flare, great insight and a big draw to your event, consider current MTV host, Aliya-Jasmine Sovani. An affordable speaker on the many environmental issues we encounter today, check out Chris Turner. And if you'd like to impact your audience with an inspir-ing message to get everyone think-ing, look into Lieutenant General, Romeo Dallaire; War Child Canada Founder, Dr. Samantha Nutt; or Free the Children Activists, Craig and Marc Kielburger. For added excite-ment we've already secured Bif Na-ked to host the awards banquet at COCA National this June. Can't wait to see you all there!

As always, if you ever have a questions about speaker ideas for any topic or regarding availability and fees for any specific speaker, don't hesitate to con-tact me.

In the 2009-2010 school year 411 has presented in over 100 schools

across Canada plus a string of night-club dates. We are now gearing up with new content for Fall 2010.

Dopey & Rochester’s Excellent Adven-ture: MTV Canada’s DJ Dopey & Hip-Hop Artist Rochester’s Mash Up Video Dance Party

Fresh off their one-month tour of Western Canada during April 2010 (from Toronto to Victoria and all places in between), DJ Dopey and Rochester are gearing up to collabo-

rate again on a video dance party themed tour. Invoking the spirit of “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” Dopey and Rochester will travel through time, bringing together mu-

sical hits from countless era’s with their genreless themed music mash up. “We’re mixing hits from all era’s and genera’s,” explains Rochester. “This isn’t a hip-hop or top 40 party or a rock jam. This is a music event and is for music lovers. This is about blending stuff like Queen and Jay-Z with Nirvana and Bob Marley. Plus we’ve got Dopey doing his turntab-lism thing, and me hosting - getting the party live.”

“This is a great opportunity to dress up as your favourite music icon,” comments Dj Dopey. “It will be a most excellent adventure. ”

Dopey & Rochester’s new show will be touring from Sept – October 2010.

Rochester: Leader of the new school, Rochester has established a new cool by breaking down musical barriers in his upcoming release “Genreless”. His hit reggae inspired single “Pull Up” took home gold at the Stylus DJ Awards winning the 2008 Hip-Hop single of the year. With 5 music vid-eos under his belt and national tours with G-Unit, Obie Trice and Kardi-nal Offishal. Rochester is Canada’s

Greetings everyone. First of all, I want to thank all of you

for having me this winter. I was able to help a lot of students make some good choices and prevent a few from making some bad ones. This year, I feel, is going to have some very interesting and positive changes for COCA and I am glad to be part of it. I am looking forward to seeing all of you again in London and if you ask nicely, I may even answer a question or two about your fu-ture.

2010 is shaping up to be a great year for FarBeyond and our artists. Loads of new music is in the works across the board. Some awesome tours have gone down already. Our cheers will be the loudest in the crowd for our ten artists nominated at this year’s Stylus Awards. We’ve got some friendly new faces on our roster, and this year’s COCA conference is going to be kill-er! Round of applause for Mr. Chuck Erman taking the reins on this one. We’re in for a treat ;-)

You’ll have to excuse me for ‘gush-ing’ like this but I have to say it. Hello Beautiful’s new record is SO GOOD! I’ve been driving the long way home just to give myself more time to listen to it over and over again… “I Wanna Die Like This!” was recorded at Vespa studios, who’s client list includes Billy Talent, Muse, and Three Day’s Grace to name a few. It's mastered by ‘Big Bass Brian’ who’s polished off albums for artists like 2pac, The Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Blink 182… I have’t even gotten through the “B’s” yet! Needless to say the record sounds like a million bucks and worth every penny. I dare you to listen to it and not get the songs stuck in your head. There’s no official release date yet, but you can count on it exploding onto the scene.

Speaking of explosions, Antoine Du-four blows my mind. His new record Convergences was just released on April 27th, and he somehow con-tinues to get better at playing guitar. He recently toured out East and per-formed some of the new tracks live. The response was usually something along the lines of “wow”, drooling,

temporary disbelief in reality, or very loud cheering. He has past 20 million views on YouTube and it continues to climb steadily. He’s off to Japan in June, then back home until going across the pond again for a European tour in October.

Hey, who’s that in the studio with Grammy nominated producers Boi-1da and Tonemason? It’s the KID! Famous is working on his first full length album to follow up his I RAP NOW ep that made him the first Ca-nadian solo artist in history to be nominated for a JUNO and an MMVA off a debut ep. He’s been to five coun-tries in the last 3 months working on this album, and 2 of the videos have already been shot and are ready to air on MuchMusic this summer.

So apparently the best party of the year so far was on four wheels and had bunk beds… The Stables hopped on the bus with USS in March and opened up their shows for a tour out West starting in Ontario. If you’ve ever seen either of those bands per-form you can imagine how they party. If you’ve seen both of those bands, you can imagine how they’d party together! They’ve since recovered, and The Stables are getting ready to hit the studio to start recording their sophomore album.

The Stylus Awards celebrate the achievements of talent in Canadian

Urban Music. This year’s awards are being held on May 31st at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto, and we’re happy to say that ten of our art-ists have been nominated. Famous, Shaun Boothe, Wristpect, 4 Ko-rners, P-Plus, Jason Chambers, Lissa Monet, Agile, Suppa Natty, and Ritz are all up for awards in their respec-tive categories. If there’s anywhere to go for Canada’s best DJ’s, it’s right here: www.farbeyond.ca You’ll get to see some of this talent for yourself when FUSION hits the stage at the DJ Showcase at COCA this year.

From border-breaking rock music, to instrumental acoustic guitar virtuo-sos, to bluegrass-punk, to headstrong Canadian hip-hop, FarBeyond cov-ers a lot of bases. What’s next? Elec-tro! The Tapedeckbros are a dj duo from Toronto that, I’m happy to say, are ready to rock the Canadian mu-sic scene. Within two seconds of their songs starting I’m powerless against the rhythm, and my body’s moving, every time. Their sets include a com-bination of some bangin’ originals and really creative remixes. I’m defi-nitely looking forward to seeing these guys take off.

The list goes on, but we’ll save some good news for this year’s COCA con-ference. We’re amped up to see every-one again and welcome any and all new faces to the scene. I don’t think that London will be offering too many Puffin Boat Tours, but I imag-ine there’s a few surprises in store for us. See you all soon.

Toronto, ON (April 8, 2010) - Amer-ica’s most scandalous zip code will soon get a visit from one of Canada’s most promising up-and-coming mu-sical talents, Darrelle London. Lon-don’s song “Understand” will be fea-tured in an upcoming episode of the popular television drama 90210. The episode is slated to air on Tuesday, May 4th on the CW in the US and on Thursday, May 6th on Global Televi-sion in Canada.

“I’m very excited. I’m a fan of both incarnations of this show, so hear-ing my music in an episode will be surreal.” says the Toronto-based per-former. “Understand” is also on the official 90210 soundtrack alongside tracks by Owl City, The All-Ameri-can Rejects, and Adele.

London herself will soon be ventur-ing to California for shows at Hotel Café (May 11) and Troubadour with VV Brown (May 12).

About Darrelle London

Darrelle London’s story is one of fol-lowing your heart over your head, taking a bold step and beating the odds. With the smarts to get accepted to law school, London chose to in-stead take a chance on her music. So far, so good. In a short while, she has packed venues in her hometown of Toronto and across eastern Canada. She has also wowed audiences at sev-eral festivals, including NXNE, In-dieWeek Canada and International Pop Overthrow . London’s loyal Ca-nadian fanbase is growing rapidly, with her songs in regular rotation on CBC radio and campus radio na-tionwide. Virgin Radio Vancouver DJ Buzz Bishop has blogged about Lon-

don being one of his new favourite discoveries. With rave reviews and a rapidly growing fan base, London is now ready to take the next steps in her burgeoning career with her debut album Edible Word Parade, a col-lection of delightfully catchy, quirky, piano-driven tunes. Look for Dar-relle London’s music on iTunes later this month!

The Pilot Agency congratulates all graduating students as well as all

event programmers for a very suc-cessful 2009-2010 school year. This year saw us bring the likes of Snoop Dogg, Chevelle, JFK, the stars of Jer-sey Shore & The Hills, Fall & Divide, Billy The Kid, Exit This Side and TIME to campuses across Canada. Founder and President of The Pilot Agency Joel Baskin also made mul-tiple appearances at campus confer-ences and events across Ontario giv-ing his “Rockonomics 101” lecture that explains how he started The Pilot Agency, his thoughts on the current music landscape, entrepreneurship, and how students can find their way into the music industry.

2010 saw the debut of The Pilot Agency’s CMW Showcase, which took place at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Toronto. Both CP24 and CTV News covered the event dubbing The Pilot Agency “Canada’s Premier Booking Agency”. The Pilot Agency also produced an artist lounge at the Junos that celebrated the launch of the Pepsi Refresh campaign, and featured a performance by Rex Goudie.

The Pilot Agency has made some great additions over the last few months including: Rex Goudie, Andrew Al-len, Iyaz, Fozzy, Whale Tooth and Dine Alone Records Recording Artist Songs From A Room.

Rex Goudie is one of only two plati-num artists to emanate from New-foundland, and had a 1# hit with

“Run”. Most Recently, Rex had a Top 30# Active Rock hit with “Undone” and appeared at many major events surrounding the Junos. Rex is head-ing into the studio this month to re-cord his new album “One Hundred Pages Later” and will be showcasing at the COCA National Conference in London, ON. Andrew Allen raced to the airwaves with the Jeff Dawson produced radio hit “Not Loving You”, with comparisons to Jason Mraz, and John Mayer. Andrew Allen closed out the Paralympics with his song “Amazing”. Iyaz was discovered by Sean Kingston and is a pop phenom-enon with the 1# hit “Replay” with the follow-up “Solo” just cracking the Top 20#. Fozzy is the hard rock brainchild of WWE superstar (and fellow Ca-nadian) Chris Jericho. Whale Tooth is an indie-dance-pop outfit that will also be showcasing at the COCA Na-tional this June. Songs From A Room is a straight-up rock act from Dine Alone Records with shows this sum-mer scheduled with Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Danko Jones, and Ray & Robby Krieger Play The Doors.

Billy The Kid is having her busiest year yet with over 40 shows to date including performances at Mount Royal College, Algonquin College and showcases at CMW, and SXSW. Billy also appeared in Billboard and Spin

Magazine. Billy had the Earshot radio single “These City Lights”. In May, Billy will tape 2 songs and an inter-view to be featured in George Strom-boulopolos’s CBC program “The Hour”. This summer will see Billy showcase at NXNE, COCA National Conference, followed by a summer tour of clubs and festivals.

Pilot has often been the bridge be-tween many campuses and US based acts including the stars of Jersey Shore, The Hills, and other TV, film, reality programs. Please inquire about a celebrity or speaker for your campus. The Pilot Agency has teamed up with Yael Latner from MTV’s “The After-Show” for an intimate and interactive experience with Stars From The Hills that includes an interview, a Q & A, followed by a meet and greet photo/autograph session. 40 OZ To Freedom – A Tribute To Sublime, have quickly become one of North America’s most popular Sublime tribute bands. From San Diego, the band will be touring Ontario in September 2010.

Pilot has signed Saliesh whom MTV called “The World’s Best Hypno-tist” and will be bringing LMFAO amongst other US based acts to many campuses across Canada this fall. We look forward to hearing from you and assisting you with programming next year’s events. See you in London.

Hello Everyone! The year is wind-ing down and I hope you had a

great school year. I would like give a huge thanks to all the schools that hosted my show this year. It has been an unprecedented year. Big hello to all the schools I got to visit and hope to see more of you soon. I recorded several campus shows and put highlights on my Youtube channel http://www.YouTube.com/incredibleboris , where you can watch your students partake in the hypnosis routines. You can also view many of my TV appearances. I have been a regular on the Maury show for the past 4 years, helping elim-inate extreme and unusual fears and phobias. The response has been phe-nomenal and it always gives me great pleasure to help others. This is why, at the conclusion of all my comedy hyp-nosis shows, I always include positive

suggestions for the audience and the participants. Other TV appearances this year have included CBC News Now and several appearances on Much Music’s Much on Demand. Here are some career and travel high-lights from 2009: • I was nominated for Entertainer

of the Year in Las Vegas by Event Solutions Magazine, and won En-tertainer of the Year by Canadian Event Perspectives Magazine.

• I have consulted and took part in two movies, currently in post pro-duction.

• My international travels took me to incredible places like Dubai and Bermuda.

I am active in the COCA, NACA, APCA circuits in Canada and US. I find it exciting being able to entertain and leave a positive message and a last-ing impression. I have built a vast rep-ertoire. The shows are changed daily, so you will never see the same show

twice, and if you do – the people par-ticipating make it different and more exciting. I am constantly writing new routines and improvise to put on the best show for the moment, crowd and venue. My performance venues range from college and universities campuses to theater and casino showrooms. This year I got a chance to visit many of you across this beautiful country. I feed off the audience, while they in turn feed off my twisted logic. Have a great summer and hope to see you on your campus soon.
