Once again a lot has happened in one term of our school life. For me the highlight of this term has been the commencement of our Farmer’s Market. I don’t think I realised the impact that this would have on our school. I thought we may make a bit of extra money and it would be nice to open the school up to the community. In actual fact the school is making a good amount of money which will pay for our Music Room renovations this year as well as providing extra resources for the grades. The market has opened our school up to the community and there has been an increase in interest in our school. The involvement of our parents in this project has been the key to its success. The parents organising others and those working on the gate and the pancake stall have been amazing! Thank you to all these people, your children are the ones reaping the benefits. The class teachers have also been coming along when their grade is rostered on and helping out as well. We received some bright new signs for last week’s market painted by Ruby Mac Kenzie, Miles in 1B’s mum. Thank you Ruby, the signs look fantastic!

FAMILY DANCE NIGHT

1 26/06/2013

We had a great turn out at the Family Dance Night. Thank you to Stacy Jory for her work with the students and her great effort on the night. It was lovely to see families having a great time together. Our school Rock Band made an impressive debut performance which they will be following up at The School of Rock this Thursday. Thank you to Stephen Sharpe for the extra time he puts with the Rock Band and the choirs.

MUSIC NEWSCongratulations to the School Rock Band who played up a storm at the Family Dance night on Thursday. They will play again at the School of Rock in Epping on Thursday 27th with the Performance Choir. Parents are welcome to come along and see the children perform. Contact me for details.Parents, we need a bit of help with the decoration of the music room door. If you are able to help with this please contact me at [email protected]

FARMERS MARKETWell we had another glorious winter day for our Farmers Market on Saturday and it was great to once again see so many people out and about. We are getting more and more people coming over to the Pancake stall commenting on what a lovely school it is and how much they enjoy the market - so nice to hear all these positive comments! The market was run this week by 1A who did an outstanding job - we raised $450 on the stall and $1200 on the gate - these amounts are getting really consistent now which is fantastic. Thanks to all of the helpers who rugged up to come along and serve, cook and collect coins at the gate - Grade 1 students and parents - Con, Anna and Jordan, Larissa, Luca and Sylvie, Ben, Sue and Veronica, Ann and Ayra, Michele and Bianca, Jim and Eden, Kate and Daisy, Adrian and Jonah as well as Miss Testaz who put in a massive effort. There 2 very special mentions as well - first a huge thanks to Sue (Mum of Thomas in Prep A) who braved the 3degree temps and dark at 6am to help prepare the pancake mix and secondly to Sandy and Polly in 1A who have helped out at every market so far and done and amazing job. They are heading away at the end of term and we will miss their brilliant pancake making skills and smiling faces very much and we wish them the best of luck on their adventure! Don't forget to make a note of the next market which is on the 13th July in 3 weeks time and is actually the last weekend of the school holidays. 1A are in charge again and the roster has been filled up with willing volunteers which is great! THIS WEEK FROM PARENTS AND FRIENDS.............It's been another busy week for Parents and Friends leading up to the end of term. Our meeting on Monday straight after assembly saw the biggest turn out for the year - it was brilliant to see some new faces coming along to the meetings and we even managed to get through the entire agenda and review the plans for the remainder of the year which was great. We also had Winona Rogers from Win Fitness come to speak to us about some Fitness classes to be held at the school once a week for parents which was exciting - you can read more about these classes in the 'Fitness Tuesday' note in this newsletter.Final preparations were done for the Hot Dog and Popcorn end of term lunch as well as some plans for a great school holiday blog post - make sure you check it out next week for some tips and recipes!Details of our next meeting will be sent out next term - we hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable break and we'll see you in term 3.

CHILDREN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES - ARE YOU CHALLENGED BY YOUR CHILD’S DIABETES?

RESEARCH INTO PARENTING CHILDREN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES.

The University of Queensland is conducting research into parenting children with type 1 diabetes. Parenting a child with diabetes presents many challenges (everything from the regular blood glucose monitoring and insulin intake, to more general parenting tasks). The aim of this study is to understand the factors that make the management of childhood diabetes particularly difficult, and to use this information to develop strategies that might assist parents in managing their child’s diabetes. If you are a parent of a 2 to 10-year-old child with type 1 diabetes, we would love to hear from you!By sharing your experiences (confidentially), you will be making a valuable contribution to the development of much-needed childhood diabetes management strategies for parents. To complete the online survey, please log on to: https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/type1diabetesFor further information about the project or to request a survey to be posted to you, please email Aditi Lohan ([email protected]) or phone Amy Mitchell (07 3365 7305) at the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, St Lucia QLD 4072 (Fax: 07 3365 6724).

Thank you for your time and participation.
