Execut ive Chef Shares Her JourneyBy: Arin Isom

Executive Chef, Michelle DeMarco, visited

Fountain Lake Cobra Digital Prep Academy on September 11, 2017. Mrs. DeMarco shared her adventures in the world of cooking.

She was an executive chef for the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinal stadiums. She shared how she got to be such a good cook at the age 24. She shared great stories on how she became a chef. When she was younger, she always hated cooking, but grew up to be an Executive chef. It is awesome how someone could dislike cooking but end up becoming a Chef for major football, baseball, and sometimes even basketball teams. She was a chef during the Super Bowl XLV, Sweet 16 NCAA, FIFA, and multiple concerts, She and her staff prepared over 3600 lbs of brisket, 2000 lbs of shrimp per game, and 450 gallons of salsa per game. Qualities she said helped her reach her success were being service minded, organized, and being a risk taker. She even mentioned the importance of synergizing. Mrs. DeMarco is quite the big deal and continues to be a successful business woman. She was really inspiring to a lot of the students. After 20 years in the industry, she has combined all of her experiences and serves her community in the food service industry. Mrs. DeMarco prepared granola for students!! She is also the wife of Middle school teacher, Mr. DeMarco and has a daughter attending Fountain Lake Middle School.

Habit 1: Be Proact ive

By Lilli Redifer/Autumn Weever/Abigail Sharp

There was once a Fifth grade girl named Abby. She was a good student who always went to bed at 8:30. She picked out her clothes for school. On the other hand, another Fifth grader named Lilli was going to bed at 12:00 pm. Abby was working on school work, while Lilli was playing on her Chromebook. When Abby got home she started studying for a test for the next day, but Lilli was playing on her video game and watched tv until 12:00 pm. The next day Lilli and Abby met and Lilli bumped into her and said ?Hey, why did you do that?? Abbigale said ?Are you the student that is always causing trouble?? Lilli said ?yes.? Then Abigail said ?Can you stop being reactive?? Lilli didn't know how to stop so Abby trained with Lilli. The next day Lilli decided to become proactive that day. They had a big test so when Lilli got to her house, she started studying. The day of the test, she knew all the answers. The teacher asked her ?What is this, you made a 100 percent?? Lilli decided she would be proactive for the rest of her life.

Solar Eclipse

By : Lily LaMontagne and Isabella Boyce

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon covers the sun. In August 2017, Arkansas was exposed to a partial eclipse. An eclipse can hurt your eyes and you will not know until a few days later. One way to protect your eyes was by wearing the special glasses from NASA. People got to see it on the football field of Fountain Lake. The only time we could take off the glasses was when the moon had fully covered the sun. Something neat is that when the eclipse is over and only the sun is out you can put on your glasses and look at the sun and you will see an orange dot. In 2024, expect to see another eclipse.
