Cobham – Explorer 122

New and innovative product and service offerings are being released for the Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) market from Cobham SATCOM and ViaSat, Incorporated. The all-new EXPLORER 122 is a compact vehicle-mounted real time IP satellite terminal that complements the EXPLORER Push-To-Talk (PTT) system for mission critical voice and data communications. The proprietary Cobham PTT technology allows for connectivity to multiple transport mediums including 2G, 3G, LTE, and Satellite. Additional benefits include low-cost routing and seamless handover of voice calls from cellular-to-satellite when terrestrial connection is lost without interrupting conversations. In addition, the Explorer PTT hardware allows easy integration to existing two-way radio systems thus “enhancing” exisiting capabilities and coverage area and allowing for increased interoperability. The EXPLORER 122, operates over the all-IP ViaSat L-Band managed service network. It features a ruggedized terminal design in a small form-factor with omni-directional antenna architecture and no moving parts, thus increasing the reliability and reducing the structure-borne noise heard from inside the vehicle. The PTT satellite service utilizes ViaSat’s new L-Band waveform that offers true IP multicast voice over LightSquared’s satellite covering North America. This allows for flat rate service plans while protecting the user’s information with the most advanced commercial encryption available. The low latency, encrypted, and IP multicast architecture provides an ideal fit for the Cobham PTT solution. The combined PTT products and service have been specifically designed for public safety, utilities, transportation, disaster recovery, and fleet management markets.
