Port Clinton city officials have taken steps to develop Waterworks Park — includ-ing having a new site plan designed for the area and hir-ing a company to clean up the Waterworks building.

The six-page plan — pre-pared by Kinzelman Kline Gossman, of Columbus, and consultant John Alschusler, of New York City — includes guidelines for accessibility, use and infrastructure.

According to Mayor Deb-bie Hymore-Tester, the plan will be sent out to developers

in the first or second quarter of this year, depending on the market.

The mayor said the plan calls for a mixed-use develop-ment which includes a hotel and convention center, retail and residential space with a focus on public access and connectivity to the down-town area.

“A goal we all have is to stimulate our downtown,” she said. “I think (the plan) gives some guidelines and prin-ciples about what we want to see down there but we’re still

open-minded enough to see what developers will bring to the table.”

The plan also calls for all possible developments to support a marina on the northern portion of the site.

Hymore-Tester said city of-ficials continue to work with Coastal Management and the Corps of Engineers to secure stimulus funds to help build the marina.

In the works now is the two-stage abatement of asbestos and lead from the Water-works.

In 1989, when Freedom Boat Club launched the world’s largest members-only boating club, a simple alternative to boat ownership was created. Members don’t need a lot of time to enjoy boating, they just get to the dock where a boat is waiting.

From one Sarasota, Fla., location in 1989, Freedom has grown to 57 locations throughout the United States. Each location pro-vides a fleet of boats cleaned, maintained and stored by the club. The dock master does all the prep and post work saving boaters costs like dock fees, winterizing, insurance and trailers.

Amidst the credit crunch, environmental concerns and fuel consumption awareness,

Freedom Boat Club has been able to expand and increase its membership base. The idea is an inherently green form of boating. By mem-bers sharing a fleet of boats, they are using less shoreline for dockage and putting few-er hulls into landfills long-term. Lastly, by scaling the size of a boat to the members needs for the day, members are ultimately using less fuel.

Freedom offers several membership plans to meet a variety of boating needs — whether you want to take the grandchildren out tub-ing, take a cruise to one of the Lake Erie Islands or catch a walleye. All memberships include unlimited usage at your home club as well as the opportunity to use each

of the other 57 locations up to four times per year. As a member you will have un-limited reservations and you can book as many as four ad-vance reservations at a time. Plus you can bring friends, family, guests, children, cli-ents and even pets on board.

The NW Catawba Marina on Catawba Island is home to the newest Freedom Boat Club. The marina is located directly on Lake Erie on the west side of Catawba Island with quick access to the Western Basin. Amenities in-clude on-site gas docks, dry storage, pool, restrooms and showers.

TOLEDO — Sean D. Logan, director of the Ohio Depart-ment of Natural Resources, was recently re-elected chair-man of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission. Jolene Molito-ris, director of the Ohio De-partment of Transportation, was re-elected secretary.

Other 2010 commission members include Chris Ko-rleski, director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency; Lisa Patt-McDaniel, director of the Ohio Depart-ment of Development; Dr. Alvin Jackson, director of the Ohio Department of Health; and Robert Boggs, director of the Ohio Department of Ag-riculture.

Additionally, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission announced its schedule of quarterly meetings for the following

year. All meetings are open to the public and include a com-ment period.

The schedule is as fol-lows, but dates are subject to change.
