Haida Gwaii and North/Central BC
TourismGwaii Haanas offers a rare window into over 12,500 years
of human habitation. Haida Gwaii Watchmen welcome visitors to five old village sites. See bear, eagle, raven and
thunderbird staring down from weathered cedar totem poles at SGang Gwaay UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover
the ancient Haida architecture of multi-tiered longhouses dug into the earth more than a century ago. Visit the new
Legacy Pole, raised at Windy Bay on Lyell Island in 2013, which honours twenty years of the Haida and Canadian
governments working together to protect Gwaii Haanas land, sea and supernatural. Walk along pathways through
old growth rainforest of towering Sitka spruce and western red cedar - ome trees are up to ten people wide and almost a millennium old. Majestic and dripping with moss, these trees
are jaw dropping in their beauty and strength.
