CPQG Members,
I hope everyone had a fantastic Fourth of July!!!
The countdown continues: 2 months to the quilt show. The deadline for
entry forms for your quilts is July 19. I challenge everyone to enter a
quilt in the show. We are looking forward to seeing your wonderful
quilts.
The election of board members for the 2018-2019 board will occur at
the July day meeting (July 19). The nominating committee worked hard
to find a terrific slate of officers for next year’s Board.
This month, July, there is only a day meeting (July 19) and a board
meeting (July 11). Do not forget to signup for the July workshop
(Quiltsmart with printed interfacing with Veronica Cox).
Have a marvelous month and keep working on your quilts for the
show!!!
Mark

I hope everyone had a happy July 4th! I know you are all working on your quilt(s) for our show. July 19, 2018 - Veronica Cox - will present the Ease of Printed Interfacing. Veronica loves sharing her quilts, not only the creation techniques and tips, but also in being up close and per-sonal to better understand the art behind each creation. Her lectures do not include slide shows because she prefers passing around the quilts so the attendees may better understand the tech-niques used to create them. Veronica has more than 600 quilts that she uses in various classes and lectures thereby making each one unique and different.

(Quilt turn is Aug. 16, at the daytime meeting.) The form, along with the Category List and the Rules & Regulations, are available on the guild website under “2018 Quilt Show”. Even if you’re not planning to enter a quilt into the show, we still very much need your par-ticipation. Please consider helping in one or more of these areas: Create a one of a kind quilt for the Live Auction (Kay Paul) Make a quilt, table runner, wall hanging or other craft item for the Artisan Market. (Sally Staner) Donate an item or items to the raffle baskets. (Rita Evans or Peggy Johnson) Buy or sell an ad for the show program. Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild Minutes of the May 2, 2018 Board Meeting
(approved June 6, 2018) The meeting was called to order by Mark Towle, President at 3:00 pm at the Hickory Inn BBQ location on FM1092 in Missouri City.
Board Members in attendance: Mark Towle, Rebecca Trevino, Cathy Price, Judy Wolter, Diane Hickey, Kay Paul, Darlene Patin, Gwen Goldsberry, Joan Bell, and Sherri Stringfield. A quorum was present. Committee Members in attendance: Pauline Manes, Linda Towle, and Sakeenah Mubashshir.
The Minutes of the April 4th, 2018 Board meeting were approved as presented. The Treasurer’s Report from March 2018 and April 2018 were not available. Discussion Points: Anniversary Items Pauline Manes indicated that she will present these again tonight and then she will place an order for the shirts since a minimum order has been met. She noted that only 50 logos have been paid for and 100 is the minimum order. They cost $170 for the 100, and only $100 has been collected. Cathy Price made the motion to go ahead and buy the minimum 100 logos and plan to sell them at meetings. Kay Paul seconded this motion. The Board voted to approve this motion. Standing Rules Changes Rebecca Trevino, Cathy Price, and Sherri Stringfield met and prepared proposed changes to the Stand-ing Rules based on changes to the By-Laws. Cathy Price sent the latest draft to the Board last month for review. Since the By-Laws were approved, the revised Standing Rules can be voted on by the Board. Kay Paul made the motion to accept the latest version of the Standing Rules presented at the April Board meeting. Gwen Goldsberry seconded the motion. The Board approved this motion. Mark requested that the revised By-laws and Standing Rules be sent as PDF files to him so he could get them to Jen Pazicni to be published on the website. Library Update Mark noted that there are still several bags of books that are being brought to the membership for dona-tions. Rebecca Trevino made a motion that the books left after the May 19th meeting be packed up for donation. Diane Hickey seconded the motion. The Board approved the motion. These will be donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter Pennywise program for resale. Donation Quilt 2019 At this time, only one quilt top has been presented as a possibility. This will be shown to the member-ship tonight to see if a volunteer can be found to custom quilt the top after the quilt show is over. The quilt top is finished enough to be photographed in July so that the Trifold can be published. The top is made from fabric donated by Kay Paul and Cathy Price, and assembled by Cathy Price. Nominating Committee The nominating committee for next year’s Board consists of Joan Bell, Diama Cortez, Gracie Clark, Paul-ine Manes, and Linda Towle. Joan reported that they are working on this and will have a slate for re-view by the Board. Known open positions are President-elect, Secretary, Rep-at-Large, Workshop Chair-elect, Program Chair-elect. The Membership Chair may be open. The committee is soliciting candi-dates. Election Committee It was noted that the current election committee structure requires only the Second Vice President – Membership and one active member to coordinate the election unless a written ballot is required and additional committee members are needed. Since Pam Biswas has not been able to attend many busi-ness meetings, the First Vice President -Program Chair Gwen Goldsberry was request to coordinate the election committee if needed.

Changes needed for Standing Committee Chairs were discussed. The Retreat coordinator position is open at this time. Storage Unit Combination Change Sakeenah Mubashshir has the instructions for the change. She is planning to make the change when the June 21st cleaning is done. The last time this was changed was in 2014; prior to this, it was updated yearly. Darlene Patin made a motion that the Guild return to updating the combination yearly with a lim-ited number of members having access to the combination. Gwen Goldsberry seconded the mo-tion. Discussion of this motion to establish who should have access occurred. Only the Presi-dent, Quilt Show Chair, Workshop Chair, Treasurer, and Community Service Chair will be given the combination when they take office. Other members who require access to the storage unit will have to coordinate access through this group. The Board voted to approve the motion and these restrictions. July Board Meeting Date The current date for the meeting would be July 4th. Rebecca Trevino made a motion that we meet on July 11th in this same location and at 3 pm, if the room is available. Diane Hickey seconded the motion. The Board approved the date change from the 4th to July 11th. Joan Bell will see if the room is available for that date and the June and August dates so the date, time, and location can be pub-lished. Board/Committee Reports: President-elect: Rebecca Trevino No Report Program Chair: Gwen Goldsberry reported that tonight is Paula Barnes and “Red Crinoline Quilts and History”. May 17th is Sandra Coffey and “Are We Crazy or What?”. June 6th is Lisa Pat-terson and “Applique – Pictorial and Faces”. Program Chair-elect: Joan Bell reported she has two vendors for Board approval and contract. For September 20th, 2018, Kelly Thomson. The presentation would be $150; the workshop on Zentangle quilting would be $250. She is a local presenter. Joan Bell made a motion that the Board approves this presenter and workshop. Cathy Price seconded the motion. The Board ap-proved the motion. For February 21st, 2019, Suzi Perron on Barn Quilting. The presentation would be $350 and the workshop would be $450. Thirty students are the max, 10 is breakeven. Joan Bell made a mo-tion that the Board approves this presenter and workshop. Sherri Stringfield seconded the mo-tion. The Board approved the motion. Gwen will send Joan an electronic version of the approved Guild contract. Joan will bring a list-ing of each of the meeting dates next year and the planned presenter/workshops to the next Board meeting. Workshop Chair: Kay reported that she has eight signed up for the Sandra Coffey workshop and will be accepting additional signups for the next two meetings. There is no workshop in June. The last workshop for this year will be in July and will be Veronica Fox with Flying Geese. The August date is our quilt show turn-in session. Workshop Chair-elects: Judy Wolter and Darlene Patin indicated that they are working on workshops in conjunction with Joan. Secretary: Cathy Price No Report Treasurer: Diane Hickey has the electronic payment device set up and has been learning how it works. Sherri Stringfield made a motion that the Board accept electronic payments without the member paying the upcharge at this time. Diane Hickey seconded the motion. The Board ap-

Representative-at-Large: Sherri Stringfield No Report It was noted that the Junk Hippie event should be explained to members who were not aware of what this event is. Community Service: Sakeenah Mubashshir noted that Mary Ashcroft has a friend who helps with char-ity projects and needs a written acknowledgement of their contribution from the guild. Pauline noted that there is a form for contributions that would probably cover this and it can be done. Sakeenah also noted that per our By-laws two meetings are free for visitors, but then visitors are expected to join. There are visitors that are attending once or twice yearly and working on charity projects for the guild, but they have never joined. Should any action be taken? After discussion, it was noted that if visi-tors are regularly attending meetings, membership should step in and these individuals should be encour-aged to join, but we do not have an easy way to follow-up on this. Membership funds are used to pay for the presenters, so attending, but not joining is detrimental to the Guild’s ability to provide quality presen-tations. Quilt Show 2018: Sherri Stringfield reported for Barb Wall on a couple of events. Volunteer signup starts in tonight. The next large meeting of the committee is May 19th at the upstairs conference room at the FB University Branch library at 10 am. Barb Wall submitted this report: Quilt Show Committee Report for May 2 Board meeting
The committee meeting went very well. Our next meeting will be Saturday, May 19, 10am at the library, in the upstairs conference room. We need to encourage all committee chairs to attend so we can get a good idea on where we stand with all areas of the show.
We identified the main areas of show income that we need to concentrate on: Vendors (Cathy Price & the vendor committee)-Our vendor/booth count was down by 8 from the same
time for the 2016 show. Several suggestions were made regarding possible vendors. The committee has contacted some of those people with positive results. There was also discussion on how to entice past vendors who have not yet committed to come.
Ticket Sales (Auian Ward/Debbie Garner)-Discussion was held on contacting the activity coordinators at senior centers located in the vicinity of the Stafford Centre to offer pre-sale tickets. Auian and Barb W. will pursue that option.
Program Ad Sales (Sherri Stringfield)-Each guild member is requested to sell/purchase program ads. 50 members selling only $30 each would cover the $1500 in printing costs. Suggestions were also made to try to get ads from area quilt shops and retreat centers.
Sponsorships (Pauline Manes/Barb W)-This year, we are trying to get larger companies to sponsor the show. Discussion was held on levels of sponsorship and what should be included as “perks” to spon-sors. Pauline & Barb are working on a cover letter and sponsor form.
Sign-ups for show volunteers will begin at both May meeting. Sherri S. is making sign-up sheets for set up/quilt hanging and actual show volunteers. Susie Doe will work on sheets for quilt take in and judging volunteers.
There’s a change in the show budget. We budgeted $270 for a security officer on Saturday, but that fee has gone up, and is now $315.
The café, during the show, will be provided by the Stafford HS NHS booster club, and they will keep the pro-ceeds.
Submitted by Barbara Wall, QS Chair 4/30/18
Rebecca Trevino made a motion to adjourn. Judy Wolter seconded this. All approved. There being no other business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 4:36 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Cathy Price, Secretary Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild

Board and Committee Chair Reports: President-Elect: Rebecca Trevino No Report Programs: Gwen Goldsberry reported that today’s presentation will be Sandra Coffey with “Are we crazy or what?” Workshops: Kay Paul announced that the workshop for today still has slots open. The workshop will be Sandra Coffey. . Workshop Chair-Elect: July Wolter and Darlene Patin Judy reported that one “workshop” will be the shop hop held in Waco on a Friday in January. Forty shops meet at the con-vention center for two days. Instead of a shop hop where we get a bus and drive to multiple shops, Judy and Darlene are thinking we could rent a bus and drive to Waco, spend the day, and then return to Stafford Treasurer: Diane Hickey No Report Representative-at-Large: Sherri Stringfield reported we will have representatives at the Junk Hippie sale at the Fort Bend Fairgrounds on July 14th. Activities: Lisa Patterson reported that one of the fall activities will be Round Robin quilt making. Retreat: Sally Staner reported the fall retreat will be at Jordan Ranch again. The cost this year is $300/person double occu-pancy. There will lots of activities and they usually visit quilt shops in the area. Carol Kettlewell and Barb Wall will be coordinating the retreat. Community Service: Sakeenah Mubashshir reported that she will be having a storage unit cleanout on June 21st. Barbara Baxter reported that the Quilts of Valor workshop will be May 26th at the church from 10 – 2:30. Librarian: Linda Towle reported that any books left today in the purge books will be donated to Fort Bend Women’s Shelter Pennywise program for sale. 2018 Quilt Show Committee: Barb Wall noted several upcoming dates:
Deadline for entry forms is July 19th

Quilt turn-in will be August 16th She has the Save the Date cards and encouraged everyone to take some and pass them out to places like hair sa-
lons, nail places, etc. Get the word out about the show. The May Birthday prize and the door prizes were presented. Show and Share was presented by Carol Kettlewell. The program by Sandra Coffey “Are We Crazy or What” was presented. The meeting adjourned at 12:00 pm Respectfully submitted by Kay Paul for Cathy Price, Secretary Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild
