About Coastal Forest Lodge

• Coastal Forest Lodge is a purpose-built group accommodation campsite on the Surf Coast of Victoria. It's about five kilometres on the Geelong side of Anglesea, it is located on a beautiful 80 hectare property opposite the Anglesea Heathlands and the Forest Road flora reserve.

The Camp Setting is delightful- an alcove surrounded on three sides by coastal forest, fenced for safety and supervision. With plenty of walks and abundant wildlife, the wooded area is a peaceful and diverse environment.

Coastal Forest Lodge offers excellent facilities with comfortable accommodation in ensuite cabins and a main facilities building (dining, meeting and recreation rooms) featuring extensive verandahs and decking which overlook the main camp alcove.

It has a quality catering service and terrific adventure activities including a low ropes course, archery, mini golf, orienteering and a basketball/netball court.

Bushcraft• Fire lighting, safety, food preparation and cooking.• Coastal Forest Lodge prepares a sausage sizzle and the group completes meal

with damper, banana boats and billy tea.• Helps develop fire safety awareness, environmental awareness and cooperative

skills.

Archery• Undercover area • Safe (confined area) with two targets • New equipment- securely stored • Quick improvement by students after correct instruction • Many challenges can be introduced

Camp Activities Cont’Mini Golf

• PAR 20 - 9 hole course - undercover.• Challenging, colourful, enjoyable.• Equipment provided.• Use as a rotational activity or with archery, or as an extra after dinner (but under

supervision).• Award a certificate to the Coastal Forest Lodge Mini Golf Champ.

Bush Shelters• Construction of shelters using natural materials.• Challenging and enjoyable.• Helps develop teamwork and cooperation.• Promotes awareness of the natural environment - no damage/ destruction

policy- use only fallen timber or leaves etc.• Current issues- people living today.• Set the water test and see who has built the most waterproof shelter.

Camp Activities Cont’Gorats Canoeing

• These regions are perfect outdoor pursuits for students from Year 4 to Year 12. Apart from the physical benefits, students experience improved confidence levels, appreciation of the Australian bush and group dynamics.

• Gorats offer guided canoe tours of the local estuary and creek. This area offers a safe environment even for inexperienced paddlers and after paddling through the estuary you can paddle along the creek for approximately 3km before the creek dies out as the area behind is dammed.The estuary and creek is home to a large variety of birdlife. This area is also home to a large colony of Eastern grey kangaroos,turtles have been spotted in the creek side of the waterway and Koalas in the surrounding bush.

Estuary Discovery• Using environmentally sensitive nets the children will experience and learn

about the fish nurseries of our oceans by catching and releasing fish

Lighthouse Tour• Built in 1891 to assist ships through the Port

Phillip Bay "Heads". The construction of the light-

house resulted in growth of the township of Aireys

Inlet. The lighthouse is an unattended light, 70

metres above sea level, and has a 7,000 candle-

power white light visible for 15kms. The lighthouse is

also significant as it is used in the television program Round The Twist.

Possum Prowl Night Walk•Night falls in the forest and everything changes. The mysteries of nocturnal wildlife are unravelled as we spotlight for sugar gliders, bats, owls or wallabies and discover their requirements for life. Enjoying the peacefulness and sounds of the night with a campfire, cooking up bush damper and billy tea.

All items should be clearly labelled. All items should be packed into one bag, a sleeping bag and a day pack. Cameras are the responsibility of the children, if lost

we cannot accept responsibility. NO electronic devices (mobile phones, Game Boys etc) or hairdryers are to be taken on camp.

Camp RulesThe following camp rules will also apply;

• Cabins – food and drink is not permitted in the cabins

• Recreation, games and dining room – children may only enter these rooms with a teacher present

• Games – must not be played on deck areas, verandahs or camp alcove

• Children must stay on tracks, use rubbish bins and respect the wildlife residents

• Camp Boundaries – children must stay within the fenced boundaries unless accompanied by a teacher

• Shoes Off – in all camp buildings

• Water – water supply is tank water. Please conserve the water by not wasting it.

Arrival & Departure Times

• Monday 18th February: Depart St Joseph’s 8:00am. (Students to be at school between 7:30am and 7:45am)

• Arrive Coastal Forest Lodge Anglesea 12:30pm.

Children will need a ‘morning snack pack’ containing their morning tea and drink, pencil case and camp booklet. (Complimentary lunch of ‘Fish and Chips’ provided)

• Wednesday 20th February: Depart Coastal Forest Lodge Anglesea at 1:00pm.

• Arrive St Joseph’s School Hawthorn (approx) 3:15pm.
