What Might the Players Learn or Get Better at? Technical Psychological

• Selection of movement in order to have more success (disguise etc.) • Sharing ideas in order to have more success

How Do I Get Started?

• Area split up in to 3rds with two end zones.• Teams are split into groups of 3/4. • Aim of the game is to pass and move through the 3rds and play the

ball into the end zone to one of your players. • Every players must touch the ball and the ball must be played

through each 3rd.Progression

• One team becomes the defenders (Reds – who are “locked “ into the middle zone) – They can only tag the ball to start• Introduce goals for the attacking teams • Give the team the option of using 2 footballs if more than 3 players.

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

Easier Harder

• Defenders can only intercept • Players can play with ball in hands

• Defenders can tackle• Defenders given to each group• Number of defenders can increase depending on ability / Challenge

• Select the appropriate time to release and keep the ball

• Develop different types of movements in order to help your team • Working together positively • Sharing and listening to each others ideas

How Do I Get Started?

• Area split up as illustrated • Y = Defenders, R = Attackers, Y = Magic players• Aim of the game is for the attackers to keep possession of their ball

and try to get through the middle circle avoiding the defenders (Defenders can only tag the ball to start)

• The dribblers can choose if they want to use the blues to pass too and receive it back to keep the ball. Progression

• Defending team - can intercept / tackle (If they win it they can score)• Once through the middle players can break out to shoot at goal• Defenders can defend inside and outside the circle

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

• Bigger circles• Less defenders • Defenders travel with a football

• Smaller Circle / area • More defenders• Time limit to try to score

Individual Possession

• Develop the ability to keep possession • Being creative – trying new things

Physical Social

• Develop the ability to use their body in a number of ways in order to have more success

• Share ideas with another attacker to gain more ideas (try them out!)

How Do I Get Started?

• Players tasked to set themselves up an area as illustrated. • Aim of the game is to keep possession and take it past their opponent

and score by stopping the ball in the end zone.• Game is played for 2 minutes

Progression• Once scored they move to a new pitch to play against someone else• Play 2v2 game with same rules as above• Add goals, once player has taken it past opponent they can shoot at goal

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

Easier Harder

• Bigger area• Play unopposed, both players have a ball each

• Play 2vs1 • Smaller area• Both players have a ball and they are trying to get each others football

What Questions Can I Ask to Support Players’ Learning?

• How can we protect the ball?• When would we protect the ball?• How can we unbalance the defender? Show me a trick / try something new • What would you do next after you get past the defender?Share ideas with another attacker

• Develop the ability to recognise when and how to run with the ball • Selecting the right time to run with the ball and staying positive when it doesn’t go right

Physical Social

• Develop the ability to change speed with and without the ball • Develop the ability to give peer to peer feedback to improve performance

How Do I Get Started?

• Pitch split up into 3 areas, two end areas are considerable smaller than the middle area

• 3vs1 in each end zone, players must make 3 passes, once this is achieved one players travels with the ball into the other box

Progression• Add defender in middle area • Add another attacker in middle area, ball can be played into the middle attached for a 1 – 2 pass

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

• Play unopposed • Bigger end zone areas

• Add more defenders in each end zone • Smaller end zones • Only allowed a certain amount of touches in middle zone

What Questions Can I Ask to Support Players’ Learning?

• Why is our first touch important?• When would we take a bigger touch?• What part of the foot would we use?• How can our body shape help us? • How can your teammates pass help you?

2vs1 / 1vs1 Attacking Circuit

• Select the appropriate execution in order to achieve a successful shot • Be creative and try something new on both lanes

Physical Social

• Execution of pass, dribble, shot • Share ideas in order to solve problems

How Do I Get Started?

• Area set up as illustrated.• Lane 1 – Players passes the ball to attacker and joins in to make it

2vs1 • Lane 2 – Player starts with the ball in end zone and dribbles out to

make the game 1v1 (Lane is smaller than the other)• If Defender wins the ball they dribble it back to start box

Progression• Players can attack in pairs• Defenders can swap lanes • Add a magic attacker that can swap lanes to help

• Less defenders – unopposed lane • Players can attack the lane in pairs / groups • Play with ball in hands • Add a “Free Zone” that the defenders cant enter

• More defenders • Incorporate skill/trick• Time limit given

• What lane is easiest? Why?• How can the extra player help you?• What can you do when you are faced up against a defender?• How can you get past a defender? • What do you need to do / change once you get past the defender?• What part of the goal are you going to aim for when you shoot?

Attacking Combinations/ Counter Attacking (Waves)

• Develop different types of attacking combinations which they can use within game play

• Encourage teammates at all times even when they make a mistake

Physical Social

• Developing clever movement off the ball • Sharing and listening to other peoples ideas to help improve performance

How Do I Get Started?

• 3 teams of 3/4 players on each (GK’s included in game)• Game starts with 1 team attacking to score. If you score you

stay on, if you concede you go off quickly and the waiting team comes into the game.

• If a team scores at one end and the next team come on at the other, the team that stays on the pitch has to turn around and defend the goal they just scored in.

Progression• Introduce a half way line – score in the attacking half = 2 goals, defending half = 1 (Rotate points)• Introduce a target/magic player who acts as a target play for the attacking team to play into to start their attack.

Playing Forward: Receiving and Passing

What Might the Players Learn or Get Better at? Technical Psychological

• Selection of when to pass forward and when to keep the ball • Keeping focused – help to make the right decision

Physical Social

• Develop creative movement with and without the ball • Working as part of a team

How Do I Get Started?

• Area set up as illustrated (Middle area is smaller than the end zones)• R = Attackers, Y= Defenders • Point/ Goal is gained if they can pass into their teammates on the

opposite side without the team in the middle intercepting. (give a target number of passes if appropriate)

Progression• Allow the player with the ball to dribble across if appropriate. If this happens they have to swap positions with someone in the other zone.• Allow a defender to go into the end zone to try to win the ball• A player from the other zone can come into the middle to receive it

Attacking: With Different Numbers

What Might the Players Learn or Get Better at? Technical Psychological

• Execution and timing of the players dribble, pass or shot at goal • Improve decision making on when, where and how to attack in order to create as many goal scoring opportunities as possible

Physical Social

• Develop the ability to change direction quickly with and without the ball • Group work to discuss ways in which to improve

How Do I Get Started?

• Area set up as illustrated (4 pitches, 1 end with a goal, the other with an end zone) Y = Defenders, B = Attackers

• Both teams decide how many players they send to each pitch without the opposition knowing.

• Once a goal is scored the ball is returned to the middle. If the defenders win it they have to return the ball to the middle zone

• After each round players discuss how they got on and hen have to play on a different pitch, with a different number of players.

Progression• Allow attackers and defenders to change pitches as the attacks are taking place depending on how they are doing.

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

Easier Harder

• Instead of a time limit the attackers get a certain amount of balls to attack with • Introduce a magic player can move pitches to help

• Get a certain amount of time for each attack • Challenge those that need it to play with less players and against more

What Questions Can I Ask to Support Players’ Learning?

• How did you attack and why?• What did you do when a defender put pressure on you?• If you have less players what can you do?•If you have more players what can you do?• What ideas did you come up with as a team?

Score and Change

What Might the Players Learn or Get Better at? Technical Psychological

• Selection of what to do when in possession of ball (pass, dribble, rwtb, protect, shoot)

• For player to deal with challenges and problems they may face in a positive way

Physical Social

• Develop their movement on and off the ball • Communicate to teammates in a positive manner – give them a new idea

How Do I Get Started?

• Split players into small sided teams as shown, players bib up as shown• GK’s optional • When a goal is scored the player must;• Leave their pitch, record the goal on the whiteboard against their colour team, take their bib off and choose a different team to play for • Teams must keep at least one player on their pitch at all times Progression• Allow players to swap pitches whenever they want – what do they base their decision on?• When the coach shouts go one player from each team swaps pitch

How Do I Make Changes to the Practice?

• Players move to a team where there are more players • Play with ball in hands

• Move to a team where there are less players • Move to the team which have the least amount of points on whiteboard

What Questions Can I Ask to Support Players’ Learning?

• What have you found difficult? Why?• When did you swap pitches?• What part of the pitch did you run to when you swapped pitches? • What position on the pitch could you move towards to help that team?• Try and challenge yourself – how can you do this?

Game Play – Scenarios

What Might the Players Learn or Get Better at? Technical Psychological

• Stay focused at all times even when things aren't going your teams way

Physical Social

• Continue to play at a high tempo whilst maintaining quality • Develop the ability to work well as a team • Come up with different tactics as a team

How Do I Get Started?

• Before the game s start different scenarios are written on the board e.g. It’s the World Cup final, your winning 1-0 with 8 minutes to go, what do you do?, Its’ 2-2 and you need to draw at least to get promoted. What do you do with 6 minutes left?

• Each scenario is numbered at random without them knowing and a player is asked to choose a number

• Once known teams go to their pitch and decide who plays what role • After the games allow teams to discuss what they did, if it worked,

would they do anything different?)Progression• A new scenario is chosen each time
