T he Hinatuan mine site, also known as the “Tagana-an NickelProject”, is located in Hinatuan Island, Barangay Talavera,municipality of Tagana-an, province of Surigao del Norte. Its area of

operations is within the Surigao Mineral Reservation. HMC exportssaprolite and limonite ore.

The company has endeavored to be a responsible neighbor and contributeto the improvement of the lives of the communities around it not onlythrough job-creation but also through its various environmental and socialdevelopment programs. HMC was conferred by the Technical Educationand Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as one of the RegionalAwardees of the 2014 Kabalikat Awards (Industry Category) for its“extraordinary efforts to promote and use technical vocational educationand training in making an impact on communities and making lives betterfor the people.”

Also in 2014, the DENR had authorized HMC to dispose the nickel orestockpiles in its non-operational site in Manicani Island, Guiuan, EasternSamar. Guiuan was the site of the first landfall of super typhoon Yolanda inNovember 2013 that wreaked massive destruction and suffering for somany in the region.
