Co-Op Basics The Co-Op, which officially got started during the academic year of 2018-2019, is now in

its second year of operation. The Co-Op lives at the CCE, which means it is a program advised by CCE staff and supported by CCE resources, however it is run primarily by students in collaboration with CC faculty and staff members, and community members.

Mission Statement The CCE Co-Op is designed to initiate purposeful, intentional collective impact work on

the CC campus that integrates community organizing learning with project-driven, community-informed work. The tagline for the Co-Op is: “Collective Action for Community Needs.”

Coalitions

The BasicsStarting this 2019-2020 academic year, there will be three coalitions that are formally a

part of the CCE Co-Op. They are: the Political Advocacy Coalition, the Education & College Access Coalition, and the Sustainable Community Development Coalition. Each of these three coalitions will have public blockly meetings, open to all students, staff, faculty, and community members. It is up to the organizer to arrange for when these coalition meetings should occur, and recruit attendees. Ideally, coalitions will be made up of student organization leaders and members, other staff, faculty, and students who are interested in the issue-area, and potentially interested community members as well. These coalition meetings will provide opportunities for student org leaders and any other individuals doing work related to the issue-area to describe problems they are facing with their work, successes they have had, and concerns they would like to address through future project-based work. These meetings could also feature faculty members who are doing related research for each issue-area and community partners who are more intimately connected with the issue-area through their organization focus; ideally, they would be able to provide mini-presentations for the rest of the coalition about their issue-area.

Goals- Enhanced shared identity among student organizations within issue area- Shared and public forum for all interested individuals and groups to come together,

connect with each other, learn from each other, and create with each other- One of the following: A co-created campaign action, either internal or external; Co-

created project, either white paper or event-oriented; Co-created awareness week, with multiple events, actions and that involves on and on-campus partners; or Co-created capacity-building project where focus can be for on-campus and off-campus -- maybe designing a workshop, or a training sequence for student leaders

Organizer PositionsThere will be two organizers for each of the three coalitions, for a total of six organizers.

These organizers will be formally known as “Co-Op Organizers,” and will be set-up as student employees within the CCE. Their primary responsibilities will be to recruit for and run Coalition meetings, and to initiate a project that can be completed within the year. They will remain in their Organizer positions for one academic year, with the chance to renew their position at the end of the year.

Director PositionThere will be one Co-Op Director each year, which will be a paid position at the CCE for

a student. Directors will have had to have a minimum of one year of experience as a Co-Op organizer before they can be considered as a Director. The Director’s primary duties are to advise and support the Co-Op Organizers, serve as the primary contact for faculty, community partner and student interest in the Co-Op, and ensure the success of each Coalition through attendance and participation at all Coalition meetings.

High Impact Partners (HIP)

The following list of High Impact Partners are community organizations that the CCE has identified as partners who we will try to work with more deeply, and intentionally, moving forward. Each organization varies in structure, issue-area, and size, though they are all on-board to start working more closely with CC. They are great organizations to bring in to coalition meeting spaces, and work with as collaborators. Contact information is listed on our CCE website as well.
