How we did the Transfer Project?

Time

May 2006 – Now

Procedure

How we did the Transfer Project?

List of HRs in China

Sort out contacts of HRsthrough WHOIS

Contact relative persons

Discussion

Transfer theirHRs to CNNIC

Not plan to transferat this time

Results

Results until now:

Hold Historical Resources: 59

Contact available: 12

Have intent to transfer: 7

(in discussion now)

Problems

Fail to contact many HRs holders

Some HRs holders think there is nonecessity to transfer the HRs

Some HRs holders are reluctant topay maintenance fee for HRs,

we hope to adopt flexible fee policyfor them

Our next plan

Improving member service platform

reverse delegation function,

utilization rate etc

Member meeting

IP policy training meeting for ChinaISP

How many IP addresses does Chinamainland need in near future?

Backgroud

The research indicates that the IANAand RIR free pool of IPv4 addressesmay run out between 2009-2012.

CNNIC made a projection on IPaddress in China mainland as a partof CNGI project research.

Two method

1.using historical IP addresses data

stable growth period: 1998 – 2005

2.using the historical number ofnetizen and online computer

First method: function fitting

Page 21: CNNIC UPDATE - archive.apnic.netarchive.apnic.net/meetings/22/docs/nir-pres-chen-cnnic-update.pdf · Update of CNNIC IP allocation work 2. Historical Resources Status in China Mainland

Quadratic and cubic function aresuitable

Page 22: CNNIC UPDATE - archive.apnic.netarchive.apnic.net/meetings/22/docs/nir-pres-chen-cnnic-update.pdf · Update of CNNIC IP allocation work 2. Historical Resources Status in China Mainland

The second method: MultipleLinear Regression analysis

The number of IPv4 has strongpertinence with netizen and onlinecomputer

Page 23: CNNIC UPDATE - archive.apnic.netarchive.apnic.net/meetings/22/docs/nir-pres-chen-cnnic-update.pdf · Update of CNNIC IP allocation work 2. Historical Resources Status in China Mainland
Page 24: CNNIC UPDATE - archive.apnic.netarchive.apnic.net/meetings/22/docs/nir-pres-chen-cnnic-update.pdf · Update of CNNIC IP allocation work 2. Historical Resources Status in China Mainland

We expect the number of netizen willincrease by 16,000,000 and theonline computer will increase by8,000,000 each year in order toproject the number of IPv4 requiredby China mainland

conclusion

1.Multiple Linear Regression give aconservative projection, but linearfunction do not fit the growth trend, itneglects new network application and otherfactors, so we adopt Quadratic and cubicfunction to make projection.

Using this first method, china mainlandneeds other 10 A – 15A class IP addressesby the end of 2012. We will assist APNICto allocate the enough IP address forChina ISP.
