1. Fundamentals of Project Management

This course will introduce key concepts in project management. Participants will learn how to employ industry best practices to manage project delivery in terms of scope, time, cost and quality. Students will learn techniques to plan a project and estimate its costs, resource needs and duration, and to manage a project to its defined deliverables, time and cost. Project change control and risk management will also be covered. (Not required for CNAQ Certificate of Achievement in Project Management).

2. Project Scope ManagementThis course introduces the key concepts of project management and project scope management. Through the use of case studies and real-world examples, participants will learn how to apply the tools and techniques of processes from the integration and scope management knowledge areas.

3. Project Time ManagementThis course introduces the key concepts of project time management. Through the use of case studies and real-world examples, participants will learn how to apply the tools and techniques of processes from the integration, scope and time management knowledge areas.

4. Project Communications Management

This course introduces participants to project communications management. Participants will learn the processes necessary to identify stakeholders, plan communications, distribute information, manage stakeholder expectations, and report performance.

5. Project Risk ManagementThis course covers the project risk management knowledge area. Learners will identify various risks in a project and examine tools and techniques to analyze, respond, monitor and control risks in a project for its successful management.

6. Project Quality ManagementThis course covers the project quality management knowledge area. Participants will learn how to plan for quality management and perform quality assurance and control as it relates to project management.

7. Project Human Resource Management

This course examines the processes required to coordinate and manage the human resources of a project. Learners will develop a human resource plan incorporating theories, processes, tools and techniques for successful project management.

8. Project Procurement Management

This course introduces participants to project procurement management. The course focuses on the processes to purchase and/or acquire products, services or resources.

Course length: 8hrs

9. Project Cost ManagementThis course covers project cost management processes for estimating, budgeting, and controlling costs, so a project can be completed within its approved budget. Participants will examine the various inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs that are used to manage a project’s cost.

Course length: 12hrs

10. Project Management Capstone

The intent of the course is to provide a real-world capstone experience through a single project that integrates the concepts learned throughout the project management program. The capstone project will focus on the project integration management knowledge area. The project will require inputs, outputs, tools and techniques from the other knowledge areas covered in all courses offered throughout the program. The course will also include discussion about professional and ethical issues related to project management.

Our Business Communications courses will help you to develop English language skills specific to theprofessional working environment. These part time course are divided into various speaking and writing courses, allowing you to develop your workplace communication skills in your own areas of need.

These are ideal programs if you are nearing the completion of your degree and preparing for employment or if you are a business professional seeking to improve your overall English proficiency.

Functional fluency in English is required. All instruction will be delivered in English without translation. Pre-requisite: Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office is necessary.

Basic Report WritingThis is an introductory report writing course designed to introduce, develop, and apply report writing skills. Various workplace report formats will be examined, with a special emphasis on the use of appropriate report types, structures, and visuals. Participants will analyze sample reports and write various reports during the course.

Memo WritingThis course is designed to introduce, develop, and apply memo writing skills. Students will differentiate between the different types of memos used in a professional workplace.

Letter WritingThis writing course is designed to introduce, develop, and apply letter writing skills. Various components of business letters will be examined throughout the course, with a special emphasis on letter types, development of the message of the letter, formatting letters. Students will analyze sample letters and write a variety of letters throughout the course. Students will become more proficient in writing professional business letters.

Meeting Agendas and MinutesThis workplace communications course is designed to improve two essential meeting skills; creating agendas for effective meetings and developing official meeting minutes. Students will analyze the elements and structures of professional meeting agendas and minutes. Students will gain practical experience in creating agendas for use in a variety of meetings, taking meeting notes while listening to a meeting in progress, and developing detailed and accurate minutes following meetings.

Electronic CorrespondenceThis course emphasizes writing skills for electronic communications within the workplace. Within an electronic context, students will learn to plan, organize, write, and respond to e-mails within their professional environment. Students will develop writing confidence and key language skills. The knowledge developed will be applied to electronic correspondence within the workplace to ensure that such correspondence is more direct, effective, efficient and professional.

Presentation SkillsThis course is designed for students who want to improve their public speaking and presentation skills. Students will gain practical experience to effectively plan, organize, develop, and deliver presentations using a variety of delivery tools. Emphasis is on building confidence, creating presentations, learning key presentation skills, and receiving feedback. The knowledge and skills developed through this course can be applied to a broad range of public speaking opportunities.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION COURSES

Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financial Terrorism This course is designed to provide students with current information regarding strategies for anti-money laundering (AML) and the combating the financing of terrorism (CFT).

Students will gain knowledge of AML and CFT regulations in the State of Qatar and international best practices. There will also be a focus on the preventive measures financial institutions can use to prevent and detect money laundering and the financing of terrorism. This course will provide participants with an awareness of the organizations setting the best practice standards for AML and CFT on a global basis. Participants will become familiar with recent money laundering techniques, through the use of case study examples. Students will apply their knowledge regarding anti-money laundering and the prevention of financial terrorism to case study analysis.

Value Added Tax (VAT)Implementation in QatarThis course is focused on Value Added Tax (VAT) Implementation within Qatar.

The course is a comprehensive overview of the VAT system. Students will learn about the fundamental concepts of VAT and its impact on Qatar’s economy. They will learn the impact of VAT on the operational and financial performance of businesses.

Students will learn to differentiate various types of supplies, and to categorize the supplies for VAT calculation. They will understand the impact of VAT on imports and exports to member countries within the Gulf region and to non-member countries around the world. Theory on the VAT registration process will be enriched with practical skills including preparing VAT invoices and the required documents for VAT registration. Students will also learn the legislation of Qatar regarding VAT.

Control FundamentalsThis course is designed to introduce technicians to the fundamentals of process control. Students will learn to control a process variable such as level, pressure, temperature or flow within a control loop. They will learn how to display a control loop and its function block diagram, and how to change block modes and set points. They will also learn to work with different control strategies such as split range control, ratio control, and cascade control and determine various related control responses. Students will learn to troubleshoot problems with control loops and to make required adjustments needed in industrial settings.

PROCESS OPERATIONS

Distributed Control Process Systems Fundamentals (Process)This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Students will learn about computer interface hardware and software hierarchies related to DCS. Students will display control loops on a DCS screen, and perform a variety of control loop maneuvers. They will gain knowledge and applied skills with the DCS simulator to optimally tune given control loops using a variety of control system modes. Students will learn to troubleshoot problems with Distributed Control Systems and to make required adjustments needed within industrial settings.

Process TechniciansThree Phase Induction Motor MaintenanceUsing an applied approach, this course is designed to continue the education of students to the operating principles and theory associated with three phase induction motors. Students will learn the practical skills to assemble and dissemble three phase induction motors and starters. Students will also practice troubleshooting and performing predictive and corrective maintenance procedures for three phase induction motors used within the electrical industry.

Direct Current (DC) Motor MaintenanceUsing an applied approach, this course is designed to introduce students with an electrical background to the operating principles and theory associated with direct current (DC) motors. They will develop knowledge and applied skills related to the design, function, and operation of various direct current motors used within industrial settings. Students will develop the practical skills to dismantle and assemble direct current motors. They will also practice troubleshooting and repairing common DC motors’ electrical issues. Students demonstrate predictive and corrective maintenance procedures for direct current motors within the electrical industry.

Electrical Technicians I & IIRotork IQ-Series Motor Operated Valve (MOV)Electrical Actuators and ControlsThis course is designed to introduce students to the Rotork IQ-Series Motor Operated Electrical Actuator. It will increase students’ fundamental knowledge and abilities related to the operations and construction of the Rotork IQ-Series Motor Operated Electrical Actuator. They will learn to understand, interpret, and apply wiring diagrams and circuit operations. They will learn about the use and application of remote controls, and their functions and addresses. Students will increase their understanding of the monitoring systems of remote controls used within industry. Students will develop the practical application of skills to troubleshoot electrical actuator and control issues within industrialized settings. Students will use remote control diagnostic functions to determine the source of problems, and to provide the solution for various faults within actuator and control based equipment and machinery.

EngineersPower Transformers - Operation and MaintenanceThis course introduces students to power transformers and stresses the importance of safety procedures in dealing with electricity and power. It is designed to develop students’ fundamental knowledge and practical abilities related to transformers.

Students will build upon their electrical backgrounds to acquire new understanding and practical application of skills related to transformers. They will learn types, parts, and functions of transformers. They will use scientific and mathematical formulas to determine transformer usage, regulation, and efficiency.

Students will learn the operating principals of a variety of transformers. They will apply practical knowledge to troubleshoot, test and maintain transformers within given industrial settings. At all times, students will be focused on working safely with transformers in plant sites.

MECHANICALCoupling and Shaft Alignment Techniques:Rim and Face, Reverse Dial and Laser Alignment

This course is designed to allow students with a fundamental background in coupling and shaft alignment to expand their mechanical knowledge and related hands-on experience.

Students will build on their mechanical backgrounds to further develop their understanding of coupling and shaft alignment tools and instruments, and demonstrate related applied skills within industrial settings. Students will learn the theories of coupling and shaft alignment, and perform associated techniques with rims and face, reverse dials, and lasers. Students will learn to use lasers to make alignments on a variety of couplings. They will learn how to professionally perform pre-alignment checks. Students will learn to troubleshoot problems with coupling and shaft alignment to make corrections and repairs as required in industrial settings.

Pumps - CentrifugalThis course is designed to develop students’ fundamental knowledge and practical abilities related to centrifugal pumps.

Students will build upon their industrial backgrounds to acquire understanding and practical application of skills related to centrifugal pumps to increase plant uptime, pump availability and reliability, and the general safety of the industrial plant. They will learn types, parts, and functions of centrifugal pumps. Students will learn the operating principals of a variety of centrifugal pumps. They will apply practical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain varied centrifugal pumps for given industrial settings. They will also perform basic overhaul procedures of centrifugal pumps.

Pre-requisite: Basic coursePumps – Positive DisplacementThis course is designed to develop students’ fundamental knowledge and abilities related to Positive Displacement Pumps.

Students will build on their industrial backgrounds to acquire the understanding and the practical application of skills related to positive displacement pumps. They will learn types, parts, functions, and operations of a variety of positive displacement pumps. They will apply practical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain varied positive displacement pumps for given industrial settings. They will perform basic overhaul procedures of positive displacement pumps, and learn how to pack and seal these pumping systems within industrial settings.

Pre-requisite: NoneHeat Exchanger – Overhaul & Testing TechniquesThis course is designed to develop students’ fundamental knowledge and abilities related to heat exchangers.

Students will build on their mechanical backgrounds to advance their understanding and the practical application of skills regarding theories related to heat exchange, and the functions, operations, and applications of heat exchangers. Students will assemble, test, and inspect heat exchangers for specific industrial settings using a variety of specialty tools. Students will learn theory and demonstrate applied practical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain industrial heat exchange systems.

Pre-requisite: Basic CourseControl Valves and PositionersThis course is designed to introduce students to instrumentation concepts related to control valves and positioners.

Students will build on their fundamental instrumentation background to develop subject knowledge and applied skills regarding the operating principles and theory associated with control valves and positioners. Students will assemble and dissemble control valves and positioners. They will test and calibrate control valves and positioners to learn how to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair common instrumentation issues that occur within industrial settings.

Instrument Technicians I & IIProgrammable LogicControllersThis course is designed to develop students’ fundamental instrumentation concepts regarding programmable logic controllers.

Students will build on their instrumentation background to develop knowledge and application of skills regarding the architecture, operations and applications of programmable logic controllers. Students will select and connect interface devices and program programmable logic controllers to given specifications and for particular usages. Students will learn theory and demonstrate applied knowledge regarding the design, diagnosis, and maintenance of plant conditions and programmable industrial operating systems.

Instrument SupervisorsIntroduction to Vibration in Rotating MachineryThis course is designed to develop students’ fundamental knowledge and abilities related to the significance of vibration in rotating machinery.

Students will increase their understanding of vibrations and rotating machinery, and the monitoring systems of vibrations in rotating equipment used in industry. They will gain theoretical knowledge of various types of vibrations, and implications of such vibrations in rotating machinery used in engineering.

Students will develop the practical application of skills to troubleshoot vibration issues within industrialized settings. Students will use vibration simulators to simulate vibrations with different amplitude at various speed and use oscilloscope to monitor it.For safety purposes, students will also learn to calibrate and set alarm points for given vibrations in rotary machinery for the safety of the industrial plant operations.

It will provide technicans with a fundamental background in DCS hardware, loop configurations, and data management systems. Students will learn about computer interface hardware and software hierarchies related to Distributed Control Systems. Students will learn to configure control loops using DCS function blocks, design graphic windows, display operation screens, change block modes and set points and design control programs by using sequence tables and related components. Students will gain knowledge and applied skills with the Centum VP DCS from YOKOGAWA as well as the DELTAV DCS from Emmerson. Students will learn to troubleshoot problems with Distributed Control Systems and to make required adjustments needed within industrial settings.

CANCELLATION OF COURSES BY CNA–Q

All courses are subject to sufficient enrollment of participants. Registrants will be notified by email of course cancellation and may enrol in an alternate course (subject to availability) or may receive a refund via cheque.

Credits that are refunded to registrants due to course cancellations must be used within 1 calendar year.

REFUNDS & SUBSTITUTIONS

Full refunds can be obtained up to 7 business days before the course start date.

No refund will be given if the participant fails to attend the course, nor if the participant withdraws from the course at any stage for any reason including illness, once the course has commenced.

If a participant cannot attend their enrolled course, they may nominate a substitute to attend in their place. Requests must be submitted in advance and will be reviewed on an individual basis, based on participant experience, qualifications and lead time needed for any program pre-work. All participant substitutions are subject to the sole discretion of the CNAQ Corporate Services team.

CONFIRMATIONS Confirmation of course registration will be emailed to the registrants prior to the course start date. If you do not receive a confirmation two days prior to the course date, please contact the Corporate Services office at 4495 2111.
