parties until the wee hours of the morning. And then we’ll all be back at work early Thursday morn, right?

No Leno For Best Seller Garth Typical Monday. We told you last week that an unprecedented 1pm taping of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno had been ar-ranged to accommodate an appearance and performance by Garth Brooks. Following the taping, Brooks was to jet to Kansas City for the first of nine shows at the Sprint Center. The writers’ strike now underway in Hollywood has dashed those plans, however, with NBC now planning to air a week’s worth of Tonight Show reruns.

The news wasn’t all bad for Garth today, what with this morning’s RIAA presentation in Hollywood. Brooks was honored as the top-selling solo artist in U.S. history with more than 123 million albums sold. Among new awards presented were Diamond trophies for Sevens and Garth Brooks, a 21 million cert for Double Live, nine million for The Chase, seven for Fresh Horses, and three for The Lost Sessions. During the event, the ACM presented Brooks with the newly-created Crystal Milestone Award in recognition of his sales achievements.

WDRM Flips To “Garth 102.1” For A Day Clear ChannelWDRM/Huntsville will be transformed into “Garth 102.1” at 7:20am Tuesday morning (11/6). Teasers of a “major announcement” began on Nov. 1 and will culmi-nate tomorrow morning with word of the flip to “All Garth” being made by the WDRM “GM” identified as “Charlie Cook” – the same name, of course, as Cumulus’ VP/Country. It’ll be all GB music until midnight, with IDs and liners plus drops from the G-Man signaling when to call in to win The Ultimate Hits package along with a chance to go to a concert in Kansas City. Hot Air: It’s interesting to note that WDRM PD Jim Tice tweaks the Cumulus VP/Country a little by dubbing the “GM” as “Charlie Cook.” After all, while Cumulus does own some Huntsville properties, none are Country. Is there more here than meets the ear?

Robbins, Peterson Get “Fresh” Duties WUSN/Chicago VP/GM Dave Robbins and PD Mike Peterson have added those same responsibilities for CBS Radio clustermate WCKG, which flipped from FM Talk to AC as “Fresh 105.9” at 5pm today (Nov. 5). The format will target 30-40 year old women and is expected to have a live and local jock lineup. Check it out at www.fresh1059.com.
