Letter from the Directors
Few people have the daily opportunity to work with
kids like yours. Your kids are beautiful and bright and
hilarious and bizarre and interesting and talented.
They are hardworking and thirsty for knowledge.
Some are more athletic than others, some are taller,
some are stronger, but every one of them shares a
passion for being part of a community bigger than
them. When they walk in the gym, the playing field
is even. Every single one of them is important here.
They are our family and each other’s.
Our hope at the end of the season is not only that
they have grown as volleyball players, but also that
they have grown as friends, as students, as people and
as community leaders. We hope that they take what
they have cultivated here out into their lives–that the
lessons they learn in the gym grow and evolve with
every passing year. Our staff is unparalleled and the
c lub is a total reflection of the love and commitment
they put into the season as well.
Devoting ourselves to this club has been one of the
greatest joys of our lives. We are striving to live out
our mission every day by helping to support the city
of San Marcos’ youth athletics programs and forging
new relationships with many of the local schools
and city leaders. We are also active every day on the
college-recruiting front, and every one of our soon-
to-be seniors are well on their way to college. For us,
whether a player decides to play volleyball in college
or not, they’re going; and we’ve worked to put them
on a path to get there.
Wherever your family’s path takes you, we hope that
it leads back here. We look forward to continuing
sharing in your lives and letting you share in ours for
years to come.
We have the best job in the world.
Every single day, we wake up excited to get in the gym, and thankful to be able to call SoCal our hobby, our passion, our career, our home. It’s not the easiest thing we’ve ever done, but it’s by far the most rewarding and the most fun. We’re thankful every day to have your family here, sharing in the adventure.

Coaches & Staff
College recruiting services is included in your membership here with SoCal Volleyball Club, and we manage every part of the process in-house. Here are some of the recruiting tools we provide to our members:College Guidance Counseling - we sit with
players individually to understand and manage their
expectations, fears and goals. We help players establish
a college admission wish list and then suggest other
schools that might be a good fit. SoCal’s resident
College Admissions Advisor is an expert in this area.
Player Profiles - we will help all players create an online
profile where coaches can view their academic and
athletic information. Player profiles will include statistics,
skills videos, game videos, pictures and club contact
information for college recruiters.
Skills Videos - we build a library of skills videos for
each individual player. We have all of the necessary
technology and resources to tape, edit and publish
videos of players executing the skills that college coaches
look for to evaluate a player.
Game Footage - we have hundreds of hours of live,
uninterrupted game footage of each of our players. We
are sure to tape almost all of our teams’ competitions
and then publish them online for coaches’ access. We
can easily send videos to coaches and have video editing
software that allows players to edit and create their own
highlight reels.
Unlike other clubs, SoCal provides our high school athletes with resources to help you navigate the waters of college recruiting. There are many rules regulating how and when coaches can communicate with you, what you can do on your own and the academic requirements you must meet. We are here to help!
We can help you figure out what characteristics/traits are important to you in a college and which meet your criteria.
We will sit with you and help you make those first phone calls. We are a resource for you. The thought of college can
be daunting to players and parents. We are here to help families feel like college is a possibility for every player.

College Recruiting
As a service to the community, SoCal is eager to meet the various needs of our families. For those interested in lowering tuition costs, SoCal offers fundraising opportunities. If you are concerned about tuition, please see Aimee Asebroek or Scott Phillips for more information or visit the Financial Aid page on our website. Never let money be the reason you don’t play for us.
We are always thinking about ways to be creative with
fundraising. Our most successful programs are listed below. We
are always looking for new ways to raise funds. Let us know if
you have any great ideas, and we’ll get them up and running.
Check back with us frequently for more programs.
1. Military discounts: Members of the military are qualified to
receive our military discount.
2. Multi-family member discount: Do you have multiple
kids in our program? The second player in our program does
not pay a registration fee of equal or less value. Monthly fees
still apply.
3. Player Referral Program: Do you have friends that don’t
play for us yet? For the upcoming club season, every player you
bring that makes a team and signs up with us that isn’t already
a member, you’ll receive one month’s worth of dues FREE*! If you bring 8 people, that’s 8 free months! Ask about our Player Referral Program and Player Referral Postcard.
* Tuition value is equal to the amount of the monthly tuition for the program in which the new player is registered.
4. Work Study Program: If you have extra time, we have
work available for you to earn credit towards tuition. Assisting
coaches with camps and clinics is a great example of helping
SoCal in exchange for tuition credit. This program is for high
school students. See Aimee or Scott for more information.
5. GoFundMe: One of our major projects has been to find
better ways to support our member’s with financial aid options
that take advantage of our 501(c)3 not-for-profit status. The
best source of support for your daughter can be found in
your family’s business relationships, extended family and close
friends. Most of these groups would be interested in helping
her by making a tax-deductible donation. So, we teamed up
with an organization called GoFundMe. It’s so simple…you
just ask. An individual sponsorship letter and sponsorship form
for corporations and businesses are available on our website.
6. Sponsorships: Do you know local business owners? Sell
banners, web ads and court sponsorships to local business, or
your own friends, family and neighbors! Have the proceeds
applied directly to your club dues! Visit the website for more
information.
7. Golf Tournament: Each year, SoCal hosts the SoCal Scramble Golf Tournament at the San Luis Rey Downs
Golf Course. This is a FUN event that includes thousands of
dollars in prizes and cash and a great dinner is included in
the registration. Two thirds of every single player’s greens fees
are applied directly to the player that sells the tickets! Visit the
website for a printable flyer.
8. Donor Tree: Would you like your legacy to live on at SoCal?
Sell leaves to friends, family, neighbors and local businesses to
be engraved and hung on our beautiful donor tree at SoCal.
Proceeds are applied directly to the player’s club dues. Visit the
website for a printable flyer.

Check it outWhat our
members are saying!
I have two daughters that play volleyball and SoCal has always been a second home for us. We have been
members of the club for 5 years now, and would never
think of playing anywhere else. SoCal has great players and
families that have become good friends throughout the
years. Scott and Aimee know everybody’s name by heart
and always make you feel very welcome. The coaches are
great, helping the girls develop and improve on skills to win
as well as making it fun! Many Thanks, The Behncke’s
For the past few years, SoCal has become a second
home for us. We drop off, pick up, hang in the cafe, do
homework, stay late, arrive early, go to other practices, get
caught up with friends, get inspired, celebrate birthdays,
ride a bike, read emails, and do work with the free WiFi!
It’s the most positive and fun place to be. Volleyball
has become part of our life and we are so happy to
have SoCal at the heart of it. The Berarducci’s
SoCal Volleyball Club has been our volleyball home
since 2006. We enjoyed the Open Gym nights as a family
(Joe, Thomas, and Rachel Fanchin), participated in clinics
(son coached and daughter learned), met our daughter’s
future high school coaches and teammates (Tri City Christian
Coaches Doug and Kristin Wright and Sarah Krippner and
Kayley Milligan), signed on to have our daughter play on the
club teams (16-1’s and 17’1’s), and I even reconnected with
my generation to play at Nationals (via Bonnie Bright). Thank
you for the opportunities and the memories! We are looking
forward to the 2013 season. Gratefully, Vanessa Fanchin
We visited several in the county and settled in San Marcos
because, SoCal provided coaches with extensive volleyball
backgrounds. The first tryout was encouraging, we met
other girls and parents with the same passion for the sport.
Traveling the 90+ miles round trip from Chula Vista was
a sacrifice but worth it. My daughter grew as a player
and as her mom, I met awesome parents. :) We wish
SoCal the best for the coming season! Janet Ahzi

What kind of organization is SoCal Volleyball Club? SoCal Volleyball Club is owned and operated by SoCal
Athletics, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. SoCal

of tournament play.
When and where will we compete? The season of organized play for Junior Girls is held from
November through June. SoCal Travel teams will play 9
regular season tournaments and attend a week-long season-
ending tournament. Additionally, the travel teams will
attempt to qualify for the Junior Olympics and 17s and 18s
will attend the college showcase tournament in Las Vegas
and an invitational in Phoenix, Arizona. Local teams play a
slightly less strenuous schedule than our travel teams with all
tournaments played in San Diego; typically in Poway. Formats
of each tournament are usually pool play to insure teams the
most playing time in the tournament.
When and where will we practice? The club bases itself out of the SoCal Athletics Center at
1482 La Mirada Drive, San Marcos, CA in North County.

monthly introductions to strength and conditioning and
sports psychology. SoCal is committed to training teams
near the communities in which our players live and go to
school. It’s a fundamental belief that the program needs to
be community-based in support and venues.
What age group should I play in?USA Volleyball, the governing body in volleyball, has
set out age definitions for each division. Visit the USA Volleyball website to find out where you fit in.
How many teams will SoCal keep, and how many players are on a team?SoCal does its best never to turn players away. The c lub
provides numerous options to best address the ability of
each individual player. Each team will be comprised of
between 10 and 12 players.
