CD 2 Track 9. Listen to our90s quiz on the CLUB CD SOCIAL SCRAPBOOK
It’s Christmas Day 1990. The world
knows nothing of the World Wide Web.But in Geneva, Switzerland, at the European
Organisation for Nuclear Research
(CERN), British Scientist Tim Berners-Lee
publishes the first web page and his
colleague Robert Cailliau becomes the
first surfer. The rest is history.
2010: Thebillionth websurfer
We follow the thoughts of Barack
Obama on Twitter, play World of
Warfare with gamers on the other
side of the globe, keep up with
friends on Facebook, download
music, movies and TV, oh and youmight just have time to research
your homework on it.
There are now over a billion web
users and no one knows for sure
how many websites there are today.
Smart phones such as the
Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone and
iPad mean that more and more
people are using mobile phones
rather* than computers to go onlinewherever they are. “I can’t imagine
life without the web!” says, Sophie 17.
“Nor, can I!” agrees Sophie’s mum,
aged 52.
