I was surprised when I found out that the Japanese celebrate Valentine's Day differently in Japan because it is only the women who give presents (mainly chocolates) to men on February 14. The Japanese women are usually the shy type and have a hard time expressing their feelings, therefore Valentine's Day is a great opportunity for them to do so. If you are the shy-type let our cover babe JL help you out with her tips on how to be irresistible to men (page 16)

As early as the end of January you will see stores filled with chocolates, since it is the preferred Valentine's Day gift by the Japanese women. These gifts vary in degree and meaning as they might be "Giri-choko" (obligation chocolate) - given to men such as bosses, officemates or male friends that women have no

romantic interest in or just for friendship or gratitude. A "Honmei-choko" is the chocolate given to loved-ones and that special someone. Check out "Walang Basagan ng Trip" (page 11) as our in-house columnist PotPot tackles a love letter and gives advice about expressing your love for someone.

Men on the other hand are supposed to return the favor on March 14 which is called "White Day" a Japanese marketing creation - but in these case they can give any sort of gift and not just chocolates. This mutual obligation that the Japanese follow tend to bring the romance out of Valentine's Day, but for us Filipinos February is the "Love Month" and we go all out in showing our appreciation or our loved ones.

We give each other chocolates, roses, gifts or go travel to sweet destinations (page 14), go on movie dates, dinner dates or probably a WOD (work out date) for those who want to be fit and healthy (page 8)

Our February issue is filled with flowers, romance and fantasy. So cuddle up with your loved-one and enjoy this month's issue!

date,WOD stands for workout of the day. You can set a time for your WOD on that day (February 14) could be in the morning or any time of the day but make sure that it's before your Valentine's dinner date. Not only will you have a healthy workout but you can have fun doing this partner wod, I'm telling you this will be more challenging since it will put out the competitiveness in you and your partner. You can follow the exercise listed below, but make sure you are not going to push yourselves to the point of getting injured since the idea of this is to enjoy and have fun and not to hurt you or your partner.

4After the box jumps we move to a more advanced exercise called the "BURPEES", this is a combination of a push-up a squat and jumping jacks (to have a better understanding of the exercise check it out in "YOU TUBE". Then again after bothof you are done, write your scores add it up with the previous scores then by this time you can distinguish who has the higher

score,It's up to you what kind of bet you agree upon before the WOD so you can be more eager to do the exercise and win. Remember when there's competition there's motivation.

his month's the time to spend with your special someone, for those who had the chance to read the last issue "New Year ,New Diet For A New You" I hope you have started on the "Paleo Diet"(Paleolithic Diet) and have seen results in

just a few weeks time. We will be takling more on Paleo Diet on the following issues but for now we should focus on making your love month a month to remember, let us not just celebrate Valentine's day on just having a dinner date but rather try to make a twist this year. Instead of just eating out on the 14th why not ask your partner to do a WOD

Don't forget to cooldown and stretch after. There you have it a short 12 minute WOD. I assure you that those 12 mins will be one of the hardest exercise you did in your lifetime, that is if you gave it your all,I am not trying to scare you or anything but I am just making you aware of what to expect. But I am sure this will be fun, what's important here is the time spent with your better half and the health benefits it can give to the two of you. I hope you enjoyed your first WOD and I hope you keep following my article. I will be explaining more about paleo diet on the following issues.

You are to count how many repetitions your partner can do for 3 minutes. After the 3 minute is up it's your time to do the jump rope for 3 mins. and your partners turn to count for you. After your round write your score. ( The score will be the total of repetitions done)

Again you are going to count for your partner, you can be sweet enough to assist by holding his feet so as not to have a hard time doing the sit ups, after 3 minutes again it's your turn to do the exercise. Again you will write the score adding it to the jump rope total.

Romantic Valentine'sDate

Let's go out on a date

BEAUTY CALL

BY AKEMI KOBAYASHI - PO AND NIKI MEDINA

TIPS FOR YOUR

Valentine's day always falls in winter. Meaning.... your skin looks dry

and dehydrated! But don't you worry honey because here are some tips on how to get your beautiful glow and fresh looking skin on your romantic date.

1. Be sure to exfoliate your lips with your favorite balm to make it smooth and kissable. If you are a lipstick lover, bring it and keep it in a small case with a mirror so you could retouch anytime you want to. Lipstick is good but some prefers to just use a tinted lip balm because it doesn't smudge and it lasts long.

2. Don't forget to moisturize both face and body. Avoid waxy formulas because sometimes their ingredients may not penetrate and make you feel greasy. Light scented moisturizers are better.

3. Give volume to your lashes. Apply at least 3 coats of mascara and let your tantalizing eyes stand out.

4. Tint your cheeks. A good blush will definitely make you look good. A cream formula looks the most natural. It goes on sheer, easy to blend and it lasts long.

5. Spray that favorite perfume and let your man go crazy. It's a major turn on to them. Be sure to smell lovely by spraying no more than two drops of perfume, three sprays of eu de parfum, and four hits of eau de toilette.

For the Valentine's Day makeup, just remember that it's all about the lips and lashes. For the eyeshadow try to make it as simple as possible. And lastly, flaunt that smile. It makes you more attractive.

Viola! You are so ready to be with your man. Enjoy your date gals. We hope you find our tips useful.

SEXY MOM OF THE MONTH

Our February Sexy Mom in Japan is known by the name of Majime - a Japanese word that means: “a person who is very hard working, diligent and serious”. Used as an

expression it may also mean someone who is too serious and somewhat dull because of this seriousness, but don't let this fool you as boring would be the last thing that comes to mind when you are with Maji - who is very friendly, outgoing and so far from being dull or too serious. TOUGH YET SWEET

Blessed with a pretty face and that irresistible sweet smile, it's no wonder a lot of people consider Maji to be a treasured friend and it pays to be one of her close friends as she is known to protect and fight for her friends.SIMPLE YET CLASSY

She has tons of kawaii costumes and clothes and loves to dress up whenever the occasion rises. It may seem she spends a lot of time looking pretty but the thing is Maji would sit down on the floor even if she is in high heels or in a dress. She is cool like that!SHY BUT OUTGOING

Majime loves meeting new people, she is usually shy in person, specially when you meet

her for the first time -but once she warms up to someone you will see her outgoing nature and immeasurable kindness which always leaves a long lasting impression on people’s heart SMART AND TALENTED THOUGH RESERVED

Maji loves writing poems and playing the guitar, her talents also include “UFO Catching” because whenever she drops by the game center you can bet that she will leave with a bag full of prizes.

She seems like an angel sent from above, yet flying low to reach out....

Can be as pure as Sunday morning, yet be as fun as Saturday night …

Can be your cure and your addiction.. Maji is our sweet contradiction

Love Thoughts“Take care of your heart.. the pain of the heart is far worse than the pain of the body.. for it

Dear Charot,

Bulacan.

At least naka 1st runner-up pa ako sa kategorya nila.

parang latik. Kakaiba siyang magsalita, mababa at buo.

Sinigawan niya ako at

nagtanong, "Bakit may kasama kang iba?". Bago pa man ako makasagot, sumingit si

Waldo, sinabi niyang "Sandali, hayaan mo akong magpaliwanag".

At tigilan mo nga

Paalam!

KYOTOThe LONG WEEKEND at

STRANDed IN JAPAN

The very first time I saw a glimpse of Kyoto was on a cigarette calendar. That was more than 3 decades ago. And when

I had the chance to go to Kyoto during a long weekend in October, I grabbed it right away. I took the 7-hour midnight bus, which I thought was a bad idea as it made me very sleepy the next day. I guess I won’t be in another midnight bus anytime soon, unless it has beds. Finally reached Kyoto around 7 am, immediately saw lots of locals and tourists holding a map of the city. I didn’t have any map so I applied my sumimasen-while-smiling method of asking for directions.

After a quick breakfast, I biked around Gion in hopes of seeing maikos and geishas but it wasn't just my lucky day. It is such a quiet place where old-style Japanese houses can be seen. As much as I wanted to see Gion at night, I wasn't able to do so.

Maybe next time. The next day, I started my trip as

early as possible. It was a long day. First stop was at Byodo-in Temple. Unfortunately for me again, it was being renovated. Another reason to visit Kyoto again next year.

I had a quick stop at Kyoto's oldest bridge, the Uji-bashi bridge. I may not seen any geishas the other day, but saw lots of locals in kimonos. It was like being in another era.

Visiting Kyoto won't be complete without visiting the famous golden temple known as Kinaku-ji. I expected it to be very crowded but going there was a bit of a challenge. The buses were always full and it was making me very impatient. But once I got there, the challenge was how to take photos with lots of tourists blocking the temple.

Forgetting to take my lunch, I headed to Fushimi Inari-taisha. The very moment I saw a shot of the

KYOTO

place in my friend's photo stream, I knew I had to go there. It was a long walk, and too bad I wasn't able to finished path leading to the shrine. Again, maybe next time.

Before the sun sets, I chase to visit yet another popular temple in Kyoto, the Kiyomizu-dera. I arrived too late that I failed to appreciate the place as it was getting dark already. But in case I'll visit Kyoto again, i'll see to it will be during autumn.

I think there's still lot to discover in Kyoto. But for the meantime, thanks for the memories and see you again, Kyoto. I still have some unfinished business with you.

is an honor and privilege for them and they hope to contribute more. Atty. Ragasa thanked GPFF Japan and its partners on behalf of the Governor.

Finally at the project site, the volunteers was surprised to see children lined up along the strait of the village entrance waiving Japan and Philippine flags. Shortly the unveiling ceremony of the Alllights Village Project Signage took place. Although there was slight rain showers the Japanese together with their counterpart families joyfully did a mango tree planting around the village, and afterward visited each of the families home. They were surprised by the Filipino hospitality as they received snacks and simple presents in return.

The most important part of the project was the giving of the solar lamps followed by the sisterhood ceremony between the Japanese and Filipino families. An

exchange of certificates signed by both parties and wonderful dance performances of the village children and parents filled everyone with the feeling of peace and one family. It was a beautiful moment when all lit their lamps all at the same time when the program reached its end just right before dawn. There were unending thanks and goodbyes as the volunteers were ushered to their bus by the families.

RayMer GK Village was said to have been in waiting for its village electrification but pending up to this date, therefore, the Alllights Village Project gave hope and substantial light in the homes. Interestingly these portable solar lamp worth US$100 is also capable for use as a radio, flashlight, a cellphone charger, and a USB hub for attachment of other small electronic devices helpful in times of emergencies such as typhoons, etc.

Alllights Japan

The Global Peace Festival Foundation Japan in partnership with Philippine Society of Japan Nagoya Chapter, Gawad Kalinga, Alpha Phi Omega,

and the Laguna Provincial Government, the first Philippines-Japan Alllights Village Project was realized. A group of 8 Japanese led by GPFF Japan President, Mr. Aya Goto and 15 Filipino volunteers came to RayMer Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay Gatid, Santa Cruz, Laguna last December 27, 2012 and gave 60 solar-powered lamps to 58 beneficiary families residing in the village.

The Japanese volunteers stayed roughly three days starting December 26-28. They were accommodated in the quiet town of Rizal at the Rizal Recreational Center where they had orientation and project preparation.

Before proceeding to the project site the participants were invited in a welcome luncheon prepared by the Laguna Provincial Capitol. A short program was prepared by the provincial government which opened up a new partnership with GPFF Japan with the help of PSJNC, and GPFF Philippines. Provincial Administrator, Attorney Leonardo M. Ragasa, Jr., together with all their provincial departments heads welcomed the whole group and presented videos on the current and future developments of the province through Governor of Laguna, Hon. Jeorge E.R. Ejercito Estregan. In his message Mr. Goto has said that the project is Japan's way of giving back to Philippines support in the past March 11, 2011 tsunami-quake disaster.
