PRESIDENT’S UPDATE
The Management Committee met last Tuesday via Zoom; an interesting experience for the
uninitiated, me being one of them! The meeting was convened to discuss the Annual
General Meeting scheduled for Monday 11 October.
With lockdown, this cannot now go ahead. A Zoom meeting was a possibility, but due to
the minimum quorum (40) and the Club’s demographic, this option was not favoured. The
Management Committee, therefore, decided to wait until a face-to-face meeting could
safely be held soon after we return to full activities. This complies with Access Canberra
advice re AGM’s during COVID and may not be until early in the new year. However, for
the purpose of complete transparency in the meantime, the Club’s audited Financial Report
will be posted on the website for your information, as soon as the accounts are returned
from the auditor. Any queries can be addressed to the Treasurer by Club’s email
For the forthcoming year, not all the current members of the Management Committee are
re-nominating. Therefore, we will need some ‘new blood’ for the committee. Our valued
Treasurer is one of the members stepping down so we will need a replacement for her.
For the Club to continue to operate efficiently and effectively, it requires a fully functioning
Management Committee. So why not use this lockdown period to nominate to join the
committee and share in the management of your Club. Would you like to know more?
Email the Club office ([email protected]) and we will provide you with information
about the various responsibilities involved.
Stay safe and healthy.
Phil, President
FLORIADE REIMAGINED
Big thank you to ‘Shutterbug’ Norm Swanwick, for the following photos
of the Club’s bulbs and for doing the ‘mosaic’ arrangement for the Bulletin!
If you have any photos you would like to share or if you did a ‘Star’ design from
Catherine’s instructions, please send images to the Club’s email – I would love
to see them and if you are happy, share them with your fellow members!

TALKING TASTY!
Cake is good for you! Sometimes
As we get older it is important to make sure that we optimize the nutritional content of
what we eat. Along with having lean red meat four times a week and fish two or three
times a week, you can boost your nutrient intake with a few small tips.
• Try replacing your afternoon tea / coffee and biscuit with a snack of cake, milk
drinks, fruit, or even toast. This will provide more nutritional value than a simple
cuppa.
• Sandwiches should be on wholemeal or a high fibre bread.
• Thin consommé style soups can take the edge off an appetite; however, they
provide next to zero nutritional value. It is better to go for a thick creamy soup or a
good old-fashioned hearty soup with plenty of vegetables, barley and legumes.
• Salad should include some protein, like cheese, egg, salmon or meat. A three-bean
mix would be a good addition to a salad, perfect for warm summer evenings.

TALKING ‘TRIVIA’
ONLINE TRIVIA WITH FRIENDS
If you are missing your Trivia Fix or you want another challenge, Tugg Probus and
55 Plus Clubs are continuing their joint monthly on-line trivia night via Zoom. As
September has five Thursdays, they are having an extra session this month -
Thursday 30 September at 7.30 pm.
These nights are not long, just over an hour, with 4 or 5 rounds of General
Knowledge questions – 10 per round. All participants take a turn at being the ‘Quiz
Master’ for the month and after one jolly person donned
a hat, which prompted everyone to rush off and do the same,
there has emerged a nightly theme – earlier this month it was
Christmas and one attendee pulled out all the stops!
Next session is a hat of tinfoil so why not join the fun. There are sure to be
questions you can easily answer. There are no prizes, just the satisfaction of
realising how much general knowledge you have, or in my case haven’t!!
You will need to download and install Zoom (it is free and easy to install). Anne
sends the link on the night at 6.00 pm. and you need to join the session by 7.20 pm
so we can start on time.
New competitors are always welcome. Send Anne an email [email protected]
and join us next week! Janelle
