1.Entry Level Certifications Catalogue
1.1 Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)Cisco has introduced a new associated entry-level certification, Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician(CCENT). This is an optional certification that can be obtained after completing the first half of the CCNAcurriculum. The Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification validates theskills required for entry-level network support positions, the starting point for many successful careers innetworking. Effective June 15, 2009, the Cisco CCIE Security lab exam will feature a new type of question format in asection called Core Knowledge. In this new section, candidates will be asked a series of four open-endedquestions that require a short, typewritten response (typically several words). The questions will berandomly drawn from a pool of questions on topics currently eligible for testing on the CCIE Security labexam. No new topics are being added. Candidates will have up to 30 minutes to complete the CoreKnowledge section of the exam, and may not return to the questions later. Step One: CCIE Service Provider Written Exam
You must pass the written qualification exam covering concepts and equipment commands related topacket-based networking infrastructure before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam. The written exam
is a two-hour, multiple choice test with 90-110 questions covering areas such as Layer 2 networking, IPprotocols, MPLS, VPN, security, quality of service and high availability technologies. The exam is closedbook and no outside reference materials are allowed.
Step Two: CCIE Service Provider Lab Exam
You must pass the lab exam within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first labattempt must be made within 18 months of the written exam. The CCIE lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam which requires you to configure a series of networks to given specifications and is similar to theRouting and Switching lab, but with more emphasis on BGP, OSPF, ISIS, multicast and quality of service.Knowledge of troubleshooting is an important skill and candidates are expected to diagnose and solveissues as part of the CCIE lab exam. Specific services types (such as DSL or IP telephony) are not
required on the Lab exam.

Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or trainingcourses are not required. Instead, candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then thecorresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics inthe exam blueprints and are strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience beforeattempting certification.
