YASHWorking, driving, sports, playing music, just a few things Yash loves to do. He is employed with Baptist Manor as the Assistant Activities Director. His supervisor says he’s impressed with Yash’s commitment and dedication

and is very happy to have him as an employee. One accomplishment Yash is very proud of is that he just recently obtained his driver’s license and loves

driving to and from work and other places with his father. Yash and his younger brother enjoy golfing and spending time together. Yash is also very active at his temple and he enjoys spending time with Kush, his staff and friend.

COLE GLUKLICKDon’t be surprised if one day you

turn on the TV and Cole is on Saturday Night Live. He’s that

funny! Able to tell a joke with an absolute straight face, Cole is gifted with a fabulous sense of humor. And that’s what keeps him from not dwelling on the fact that at age 11, he was involved in a terrible auto accident that took the lives of his parents and permanently left him with several disabilities. Cole keeps it all in perspective and at the age of 23, he is working, living on his own and writing a book. “I am a motivational speaker and want people to know to appreciate life and live in the moment.”

AUSTIN BAZANMichael Phelps move over, Westland resident Austin Bazan could be the next Olympic gold medal winner! Austin is 16 years old, lives with his parents and two sisters and attends Wayne Memorial High School. Austin absolutely loves to swim and run track. He has won several medals for his athletic abilities and hopes to continue competing throughout high school. He would like to attend Eastern Michigan University and study aviation engineering. He is also working toward being an Eagle Scout.

SHAWN NEAL Shawn is training to become a certified Peer Mentor through a program offered by The Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority. “I have experience in helping people achieve their goals and I thought becoming certified would help me help others. Going through the training at CLS is giving me hands on experience working alongside experienced Peer Mentors. There are a lot of people who can benefit greatly from working with a Peer Mentor. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”

Award Winners Award WinnersTHERESE WALLACE

The Wallace family grew up in Southwest Detroit, all ten of them! There are seven boys and three girls. One of the youngest girls, Therese, was born with significant disabilities and at the age of two was placed in an

institution. “I cried when I learned she wasn’t coming home,” said the oldest brother Patrick. Over the years, the big family has stayed very close and today they have seen Therese’s life improve greatly as she just recently moved into her own place. “She loves her home and now we all get together and have big celebrations,” said brother Leo. “She is the happiest I’ve ever seen her and she is having the time of her life with her two roommates and the wonderful support she has received from Paragon Support Systems.”

UNIQUE FOOD MANAGEMENTSPENCER JONESCommunity Partner

Rosa Randolph started Unique Food Management 20 years ago as a carry out place to get delicious barbecue. Today, her operation is an

incredible community partner in Wayne and Oakland Counties, producing and delivering over 25,000 meals a week for Meals on Wheels and various charter schools. Rosa brought Spencer Jones on board to work with her crew several days a week. With the help of a Job Coach, Spencer has become very good at his job. “Spencer is part of our family. We just had a birthday party for him. He is a hard worker and loves what he does. We are happy to have him as part of the team,” said Rosa.

HEIDI GOHLCommunity PartnerGetting enough exercise is difficult for many of us but just imagine if you were in a wheelchair. Fitness trainer Heidi Gohl started a Cardio Drumming class at Community Work Opportunities and everyone loves it! The class has doubled in size, people that were skeptical now can’t wait for the next class and participants are happy and healthy. Several of her best students use wheelchairs but that doesn’t stop them from having fun and getting in a good workout! Thank you Heidi for your willingness to make other people feel good and stay healthy!

MARIAM KHANHer family is from India. She’s a first generation American, an only child and has accomplished more than she ever dreamed. Mariam just recently graduated from U of M and is now working toward getting her Master’s degree in the medical field, possibly in Policy or Hospital Management. Her Provider, Life Center, worked with her to find reliable staff that are also students on the U of M campus. She enjoys college life and hanging out with her friends when she’s not studying.

LAWRENCE DAWSONLawrence is the best Uncle a little girl could ever have. He helps take care of his two month old niece when his sister is working. He is also a very good cook and prepares meals for his mom when she gets home from work. Lawrence attends the Western Wayne Skill Center and has learned a wood burning skill which helps him bring in some money as he sells his items at local Farmer’s Markets. He is getting ready to start working with a Job Coach who will help him find more places to sell his wood burned items. Lawrence is very proudof his accomplishments.
