CLP Pictograms
An agency of the European Union
A hazard pictogram is an image on a label that includes a warning symbol and specific colours intended to provideinformation about the damage a particular substance or mixture can cause to our health or the environment. The CLPRegulation has introduced a new classification and labelling system for hazardous chemicals in the European Union. Thepictograms have also changed and are in line with the United Nations Globally Harmonised System.
The new pictograms are in the shape of a red diamond with a white background, and will replace the old orange squaresymbols which applied under the previous legislation. Since 1 December 2010, some substances and mixtures havealready been labelled according to the new legislation, but the old pictograms can still be on the market until 1 June2017. Until then, you may find detergents, lamp oils or other products labelled with either the orange or white pictogramat your local supermarket or on the shelves of your local hardware store.
