CLP Setup Process
Central Office
• Step 1: CLP Program presented to the entire students and their parents briefly.
• Step 2: CLP Interest Form signed by parents submitted to CLP Committee.
• Step 3: CLP Committee assigns students to the mentors.
• Step 4: CLP Kick Off Event (Students/Parents/Mentors) with detailed information session.

Parent Responsibilities

Responsibilities: CLP Parents
q Sign the consent form for child’s admission to the program.
q Encourage child to regularly respond to his/her group activities
q Communicates regularly with mentor.
q Notify CLP mentor teacher if there is a change in the family that might affect the student's participation in the program.
q Tracks the student’s performance via quarterly reports
q Makes the payment of the extracurricular activities associated with CLP.
q Participates in CLP parent gatherings such as picnics, dinners, assemblies, etc…
q Voluntarily participates as a chaperon in CLP activities if needed.

Responsibilities: CLP Student q Commit to specific weekly and monthly time requirements as
agreed upon
q Commitment to learn.
q Set goals with mentor for Congressional Award and devote time and effort to achieve these set goals
q Take responsibility for personal growth and success
q For high school students, keep GPA as high as possible and understand that if GPA gets below 3.00 for a semester, it requires dismissal from the CLP.
q Full time attendance (unless it is an emergency) to CLP activities including
q Weekly gatherings with mentor
q Camps, trips, sport activities, etc.
q Leadership and career development seminars
q All other programs associated with CLP College-Awareness and Leadership Program (CLP) by Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF)
The dismissal procedure from CLP is as follows:
´ Mentor may refer student for dismissal from the program if the following situations occur: ´ Student fails to attend a total of three events and does not provide a
valid excuse ´ Student fails to meet his/her academic requirements and other duties/
assignments three times; for example: ´ Not memorizing assigned words
´ Not finishing assigned tests

´ 6th-8th grade: if average grade of Math, Science, ELA and Social Studies courses drops below an 80 in one semester
´ 9th-11th grades: if semester GPA drops below 3.00

The Congressional Award ´ The Congressional Award is a public-private partnership created
by Congress in 1979 to recognize America’s youth for their dedication to civic service, community, and personal development.
´ To earn a Congressional Award, participants set and achieve individual goals in four program areas based on individual interest, need, and ability.

´ Six levels of Award ´ Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates
´ Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals.
´ Each level is cumulative — this means time spent on one award is carried with you to the next level.
´ The minimum age to register is 13 1/2 and you must accomplish your goals by your 24th birthday.
