My Big Campus: Each student has a MyBigCampus account to access content for the course. Many helpful resources can be found under our class group. This resource will be vital in integrating our Mac Book Pros into the classroom. Course OverviewThis course provides an introduction to the French language and the cultures of the Francophone world. Dress code will be enforced. No leggings unless your shirt is to your fingertipsCell phones are not permitted and should be kept out of sight unless they are being used for a classroom activity Expectations

This course covers a vast amount of material in a relatively short period of time. Therefore, students are expected to be attentive and to participate fully in classroom activities. Group work is a very important part of this course and should be taken seriously. Students are expected to interact with and respect other students, as well as the teacher, at all times. Students who are unable to abide by the policies of the class will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary measures at the discretion of the teacher or administrator. Grading 40% Daily grades - quizzes, homework, class work 60% Major grades – tests* and projects Assignment due dates may be found in the student’s Outlook Calendar on the MacBook. Late assignments will be assessed a penalty of 10 pts per day***Assignments missed due to absence are to be made up outside of class time at the discretion of the teacher and within one week of the absence. Otherwise, the student will receive a 0 for the assignment. This is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY!!!*Any test on which a student makes a grade of 77 or below may be retaken outside of class time for a maximum score of 77 within a week of the original test date. Extra Credit

Extra points can be earned in the form of Euros (the currency of France).Euros can be earned by: exceptional classroom participation or performance, classroom games and contests, and cultural sharing.*

*cultural sharing includes culturally relevant newspaper or magazine articles, web pages, photos, artifacts, etc. brought in by the student and briefly shared with the class.

Euros can be redeemed for:Extra points: 1 Euro = 1 point on a daily grade

2 Euros = 1 point on a major grade

Page 3: Clover School District / Homepage€¦  · Web viewMy name is Madame Love, and I am excited that you have decided to study the French language and culture. I am looking forward to

10 Euros = Homework Pass*The Euros must be turned in with the assignment or assessment.

TechnologyDuring the semester, we will use a variety of technology, including student MacBook Airs and iPads, to take notes, review concepts, play games and work on projects. Students are to work only on French-related content during class and may not play games or access media websites without teacher permission. Each student is required to have a charged MacBook Air each day. Students will NOT be allowed to charge their laptops during class. Any student who does not have a charged computer will have to complete assignments on paper during class and transfer any computer-based assignments to their computer for homework. Extra HelpPLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK FOR EXTRA HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I can help you by appointment before school or after school. In addition to one on one help, there are many computer resources available. The textbook website and class page activities are also very helpful as a source of review and practice. They can be found on my school web page or by accessing the MyBigCampus class pageStudents may also find it helpful to find a friend to study with in person, by phone, or on line. HomeworkStudents have homework EVERY DAY! Even when no written assignment is given, it is IMPERATIVE that students spend a minimum of 15 minutes per night reviewing material covered in class. I am sure that if you make daily review a habit, you will find the course much easier. Getting a “little behind” in your work can be academically fatal! ***Late homework assignments WILL NOT be accepted. MaterialsStudents are expected to have the following materials for class:

Pen or pencil and PaperAt least one dry erase marker

Ear buds/headphones (with microphone if possible)TissueHand sanitizer
