Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

My favorite week of the year is quickly approaching. I know many of

you are busy working on projects and with your animals. As we get

closer to fair and exhibit season, let’s keep the following words from

Clyde D. Lane in mind:

Thou shalt not feed, train, fit, and take care for the animal for thou

art trying to teach the child responsibility.

Thou shalt forgive a child for making mistakes on a project or in the

showring for thou hath made mistakes too.

Thou shalt help and respect the Fair Committee members for they are

doing a job that thou would not want to do.

Thou shalt see that thy child is on time for all shows and activities for

thou would not want to wait on another.

Thou shalt make sure thy child has projects and animals entered and

in order by the designated time (See Fair book).

Thou shalt teach thy child that winning a blue ribbon is a desirable

goal but making friends along the way is a more worthy goal.

Thou shalt not complain about the judge for it is THEIR opinion that

has been sought.

Thou shalt remember that the fair is a teaching moment, not neces-

sarily a moneymaking endeavor.

Thou shalt remember that the County Fair is a family event that shall

be enjoyed and supported by the entire family.

Thou shalt have fun, and enjoy exhibiting whether we win or lose.

Home & Family Committee Minutes

Eau Claire County Home and Family Committee Meeting Minutes for Monday, April 23, 2018

Meeting was called to order by Jamie Mossige.

Foods Revue Report: It took a long time. Two and a half hours to judge 12 entries (11 partici-pants.) If we have the same judge next year, we should set a time limit like 7-10 minutes per ex-hibitor.

Clothing Workshop Report: Open sewing workshop did not happen as no one signed up. The pa-jama pants workshop had 6 4-Hers show. It was a nice, fun group. Hannah Vollendorf helped and was very patient with the kids. Nora Tepsa and Ann Vollendorf also helped Jamie at the workshop. A couple kids finished their project and the rest were almost done. Thank you Jamie for hosting this again.

Clothing Revue Plans: Sunday, April 29th at the Extension Office. Set-up at 1:00, Registration at

1:30, Judging at 2:00. Jamie will email the office about the box with ribbons and judging materials. If the judge wants someone to write comments, Jamie will. Wendy will take pictures and make the poster for the fair. Allison Duerkop and Rachel Anderson will have an Olympic Theme for the Style show.

Elaine and Diane Schroeder Memorial Clothing Award: The committee would like to honor some-one with this award. Jamie will check with Awards & More to see if the tape measure is available. Check with the Extension Office about the wording on the plaque or in Awards Program for the name of the award. The award will be presented at the Fair Awards Program.

Cookie Baking Contest: The contest is on Saturday of the fair at 3 p.m. Wendy will send the reci-pe (Coconut Oatmeal Delights) to Andy for the Clover Leaves. Jamie has the design ready for the prizes. Wendy will ask Andy Heren to judge and also members of the Henning family. Wendy will talk to Jane Mueller (Dairy Promotion committee) about getting milk for cookie tasting.

Wendy has the names of two women that are willing to help with cake decorating and quilting. Wendy will contact Miranda Nelson about whether we can put their contact info in the Clover Leaves.

The September agenda should include looking at adding “any other food item” to the Foods Fair-book entries.

Next meeting: Monday, September 24, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Sew Complete

Respectfully Submitted by Wendy Duerkop
